Flames and Montreal's cap space.

I don't even think they need an all star. They need someone who can enter the zone and get Huberdeau the puck to start the cycle

What was the strength of opposition that Huberdeau faced, in Miami? Barkov line faced the heavies?

trading a star player for parts, because he is currently struggling - that's how you build a winner!

Dach is only 21, plays a more valuable position, and has a higher PPG (and more points) than Huberdeau so far this season. I would say he looks as much a star as Huberdeau right now. We get the extra pieces to make up for the career diversion, but we are also getting much more potential.

It’d have to be Dach+Anderson+Hoffman or something outside of Huberdeau vs Dach

Based on our current cap situation and standings, what is a realistic trade we can or might make? Tre isn't going to scorch the earth any time soon, if he does make a trade, are we trading a roster player or a young guy (Coronato, Zary, Pelletier) or draft picks and for what in return?
Not a ton of playoff teams have cap space either.
Flames needs: top 6 scorer, bottom pairing dman
Possible trade targets for forwards:
Boeser
Horvat
Toews
Kane
Tarasenko
Nyquist
Bertuzzi
Van Reimsdyk
Drouin
Domi
Athanasiou
Barbashev
Current roster
New contracts:
Huberdeau - not getting traded
Weegar - not getting traded
Kadri - not getting traded
Vladar - not getting traded
Upcoming UFAs:
Lucic - been healthy scratched, maybe requests to be traded to contender?
Ritchie - 4th liner
Lewis - useful utility guy
Stone - possible lifetime Flame
Zohorna - tweener
UFA's after next season:
Backlund - bleeds Flames, possible extension with lower AAV to ride out his career here
Lindholm - possible trade target since he's going to be due for a large raise and will be 29 years old but still not likely
Toffoli - possible trade target, good value for production but we're all in so still not likely
Hanifin - still young, possible extension maybe around 5-6 million
Tanev - age and injuries so likely not trading
Zadorov - possible trade target, good bruising d man for decent cap hit
The rest:
Mangiapane - down year, high AAV, still young, not likely
Coleman - too much term, high AAV, lower production, not likely
Dube - still young, possible trade bait
Ruzicka - still young, not likely
Andersson - young, great AAV, great production, not getting traded
Markstrom - too much AAV and term to move, not likely

There's been smoke about Josh Anderson and the Flames. North-south player would fit Darryl's style. Right shot, fast. I haven't seen him enough to say if that's a good idea or not.
In terms of subtracting someone, Ruzicka is probably one of the most attractive roster players due to his age, upside and low cost. I don't think the Flames should or would do that. Mangiapane is young-ish so he could be of interest to a rebuilding club despite his cap hit and the possibility that he's closer to a 17- to 20-goal scorer than the 35 goals we saw last year.
Otherwise, we're dealing draft picks and prospects like a Pelletier. I do wonder if the emergence of Vladar puts Wolf into the trade-chip bucket.

Flames have no cap space next year to add Anderson. If anything they need to shed salary this summer.

Well, they'd need to move a body/bodies obviously. Or are you suggesting we have a roster full of untouchables (or untradeables)? Next year's problem is just that.

Josh Anderson's contract is one of the worst in the league. The Flames need to avoid it at all costs.

Yeah, the Flames don't have a contract I'd be happy swapping for his.
5.5 million for maybe 20 goals and not much else.

So much worse. 2 years longer, only a touch cheaper and Mangipane is out performing him

The killer is the term. *Four more years after this one for a glorified third-line forward. Yuck.

Yeah, not a contract I'd trade for his unless Huberdeau blows chunks and Flames can get youth from Montreal as well
