Horrible game from the Flames almost all night. They had a good first, but then lost the plot completely, but there was a reason for that which is my next point.
Holy ####, referees, calm down. You don't need to call everything you suspect might be worthy of a penalty. The 1st was fine, but from the 2nd on almost any contact that limited a player's progress was a call, whether it was truly a penalty or not. ####ing referee show tonight.
Hanifin had a ####ing horrible night
Rasmus Andersson is a legit #1 d-man in the league.
Zohorna looked really good in his limited time. I think Darryl needs to give the kid a bit more ice time going forward.
Put Phillips in the ####ing lineup dude. Your size bias is stupid. The team needed his creativity tonight.
|
Goal #1 was completely Rasmus' fault. He left Laine wide open and didn't even try the intercept the pass. Laine was skating backwards, peeked over his shoulder, and was shocked to see completely open ice between him and Markstrom.
Goal #2 was obviously Weegar's fault.
There would have been goals 3-6 if Markstrom didn't bail the team out on other odd man rushes.

Nope it's been your take all season not just now. Own up to it. The take was always dumb and it's proving it's point now since you need to keep moving the goal posts.
It's going how I thought it would lmao okay calm down.

Between tonight and the yotes game earlier this week, it's been some boring, listless hockey this team is playing.
They need some energy or youth or a superstar or something.

God you a such a loser...own up to my take that has been correct so far?
Did you miss the 4-1 homestand? No goalposts are moved the Flames started winning more frequently when I said they would. I never said they would win every game against bad team because nobody does.
Columbus beat the Jets 4-1 last week

I remember Hanifin as being the culprit on goal 1, but I am now drunk and have probably forgotten the reality.
All I know is that Andersson made key play after key play to try and keep his team in this one. It didn't pan out, but the dude was really good overall.
It's such a frustrating team to watch because we all know they have pretty good talent on paper.
I really think Sutter has lost the room. We all know he has a limited shelf life, and 3 years is pretty much the limit on good returns for his coaching. We're about at that point.
I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's the reality. The team doesn't seem to respond to what he expects them to do. Something is off.

we're at like 1.75 seasons of total Sutter coaching
came in the back half of 2021, one full season, and another 25 games
would have to be a really short shelf life, and many of these players have only had him for a few months

And they just extended him for 3 years. He isn’t leaving and it doesn’t seem like him and Treliving are on the same page. Treliving had no contract after this year. Did ownership demand the extension for Sutter? He has Edwards ear for sure. Would Sutter become GM again? That would be disastrous. This team is in a slow spiral right now and not sure what the solution is.

Mhhmmm, not really. It's at least 2 years plus this season. While I'm hopeful, I just see a team that is not interested in his style of game. They seem to break ranks easily, and that means he doesn't really have complete buy-in.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I just see what i see and report.

I went back to the Columbus broadcast which had the best overhead analysis and you might be right.
I think I remembered Andersson being really passive even though he was skating in the right direction so I thought he could have made an effort to intercept the pass or sped up to skate forward at full blast to out-race the backwards facing Laine if he had tried.
Hanifin was right beside Laine but his momentum skating backwards was carrying him away from the play.

We don't all know this. I see no reason to focus on the coach when the actual players on the team have accomplished so little under so many different coaches.
If the "room" no longer listens to him then I am convinced the room is not capable of any kind of sustained success or overcoming adversity.

if Sutter also gets gm dibs from ownership I would resign my fandom for a bit
but I think Sutter would refuse it at this stage in his career and with his history at the position
Sutter is a great player motivator and teacher but his grasp on what makes a successful present day nhl roster is really not great .. he is behind on that front, no matter how much he claims to be a student of the new game and analytics
size and toughness are not the factors they once were
tough guys get sent to the bin for clean hits on nhl stars .. its sad, but it's the reality we're in now
he's right on all his criticisms of the officiating according to the old ways when tough sobs ruled the game but this is the new normal

The Flames are just kind of boring this year. Whatever's going on with their chemistry, they're not much fun.

When can we start complaining about Huberdeau? He's invisible. He signed a contract that indicates he is the best player on the team but has been anything but that.
Give him time because he needs to adjust? How much time does a so called best player need? He has been terrible and it is not acceptable any more. It's been 24 games and he should have been at the top of his game about a dozen games ago. Sure he has 7 points in his last 7 games but hasn't exactly been the Flames top player doing that.
After getting 115 points last year he deserves a lot of criticism for his play this year. He's well bellow a PPG right now and I'd be very surprised if he reaches 75 points.
Is he waiting for his next contract to kick in before he actually tries to be the best player? The Flames would be in a better position if their supposed best player showed up.
I've lost my patience with him. Maybe you can tell.

For ####s sake the obvious shot is staring us in the eye. The top scoring forward in the second best league in the world can be added to our roster and our top 6 could use a shakeup. What do we have to lose?

Line #1. 21 minutes in the biggest show. 5 pm slot on hockey night in Canada. There are 2 ways this goes. Sutter looks like a goddamn genius or he says see, I told you so. I would do it.
