I read it more as in he’s mad at the way Florida handled it.
Nothing to do with Calgary.

Look, I recognize that there seem to be a wide range of views about Weegar here... But I think the one thing we can agree on is that he's clearly better than Darnell Nurse.

I assume the media availability is just "hey, here's a chance for you media to get some reactions from the guys who got traded since we're in the entertainment business" rather than any kind of announcement.

I’m interested too but the post doesn’t say anything that he’s unhappy or not interested in Calgary more unhappy how Fla just dumps him without trying to resign him. Maybe he would have stayed but they chose Tkachuk instead. Doesn’t mean he hates Calgary and we have 0 chance to resign him
But if he is not interested it will be interesting to see how he responds to the questions and if Treliving will flip him before the season starts

Huberdeau is obviously still in shock which means that probably debunks my theory that BT talked to his agent beforehand to make sure he would sign here.

People need to be patient as hard as that will be, and take solace in the quality of the assets and the options that come with that. Neither of them were expected to be traded, and they are being traded out of a good situation.
I really doubt there is anything systemic wrong in Calgary other than the usual challenges of a small Canadian market. If anything the Flames have a great reputation as an org. I think we need to accept Johnny and Chucky both just had other motivations tgat didn’t go our way, vs it being an indication of a continuous problem.
Tgat said doesn’t mean they’ll sign, and if they dont we have options. But this likely won’t get done super quick. Convos just started, they’ll need time.

It may not be the city itself. There could’ve (still could) be something going on in the room where some guys have gripes about something none of us know. It’s like any other org where there’s politics, thoughts of unfairness, and those types of things. These guys are humans after all. Management can’t do lip service in this market. They really have to make a concerted effort behind the scenes to make sure everyone is happy enough to give it their all. I think it’s pretty clear things weren’t happy the past few seasons. This year less so but still.

Huberdeau has lived in Florida his whole adult life. His whole social network is probably based there, possibly even extended in-laws. I don’t know if he has kids, but if so, it’s probably all they know. Just because Huberdeau was born in Canada, it doesn’t mean the American flight risk disappears. It’s been his life for a long time.
From a professional point of view, I imagine leaving a President’s Trophy for a team that has been in disarray for the past couple of months is a great sell either. Not to mention, he is already relatively under paid and now will pay more taxes. Honestly, he is probably pretty pissed off right now and I can’t say I blame him.

I really don’t want to see a disgruntled Huberdeau tomorrow.
I was excited at first because it was assumed he waived to come here.
However the latest tweets contradict that and actually paint a brush of a guy blindsided and potentially upset coming here.
I honestly thought perhaps he was coming and would extend immediately with the potential to wear the “C” going into next season. Now I’m not so sure.

But for me, I just don’t see a path at this very moment that makes the Flames better than they were last season which is what they needed to do to contend against the likes of the Avs. So in my opinion, I think they took a big step backwards and should’ve traded Tkachuk for all futures, which this trade is not.
|
And you can frame it however you want.
I see it step by step.
Gaudreau was lost. Tkachuk wanted out. He made an asset gaining transaction.
Happy they lost Gaudreau? No
Happy they won this trade? Yes
They don't have to be connected into one package for me.

His agent is on the record as explaining how you don't pay more taxes in Canada, so I am sure he is properly educated on that part at least.

He said today that he had chatted with the agents in the process.

Maybe I misinterpreted you then.

Taxes is an easy workaround by giving more salary.

Nah this was the first time it's ever happened, but I was talked down to pretty good by him because it has never happened before. Then it did happen, and that's pretty funny to me.

We’ll no one likes losing. But everything we’ve heard suggests this last season was much more than a little less bad. Too much positive smoke around the tightness and culture of the team for it not to be true. Seems like the locker room was top notch.

Trade him to Tampa then, we’ll take Brayden Point
