Since the day he was drafted this was always the plan for the Tkachuks.

Schwingt was key to the deal: Treliving.

Getting to have the first French Canadian each draft helped. But yea basically buying 1st picks from teams going bankrupt also helped

That's probably a little flattering to the player. I have a hard time believing Treliving wouldn't move forward on this deal without him being included.

That shouldn't come as a surprise. Was speculated for years, especially him taking the shortest route to Free Agency.

I never said the majority doesn’t have critical thinking or are lemmings. You’re painting.
You know who I was responding to then right?
I guess volume of posts [aka post per page in this thread] equals critical thought.

I don't think that what was what Treliving was saying. He was saying that Schwindt wasn't a throw in. He was someone they targeted.

Chucky is all about the $ and I don't think Tre think's he's worth as much as Chucky thinks he is and I would agree with that.

A lot of us would prefer a rebuild, me included. It's just we have accepted that the Flames organization has no interest in that route. Once you accept that, you can enjoy this trade for what it is. No need to suck out the fun by pining over a fantasy.

Taken seven spots before Nikolaev.
Likely part of the same "forwards" grouping the scouts organized.

This is not surprising. Seems like the relationship between Matthew and the Flames really soured last year for whatever reason. If I remember correctly, didn’t Treliving and Sutter talk Tkachuk out of a trade request.
Hope one day we find out exactly what caused Chuky to go from loving this place to “can’t wait to get out of here.”

It’s a fair question. They could have discussed with the players the likely hood of extension before making the deal.

i found it interesting how Brad mentioned thaat they talked to Gaudreau last year and he was under impression that they were interested in being here....Gaudreau's camp definitely fooled him and i'm sure he's still pissed at that

It's easy to look back at that game against Toronto with the Muzzin puck flip at the end of the game. Ever since then, he seemed to have lost some interest. Granted he had success with Sutter for this season, but that does seem like some sort of turning point.

Sorry, but I hate the idea that just because the organization/owner or whoever wants it this way, then we as fans should all just conform and accept things the way they are.
I don’t really care if I come off as black sheep here, it wouldn’t be the first time. I’m still going to put my opinion out there just like everyone else, even if it is unpopular.

Weren’t they at the time? Johnny and his new wife were looking at houses here. However negotiations went, only Treliving would know. But now he’s essentially jumped in to a time machine and he’s in the exact same situation with another player who could test free agency next offseason. We’ll see how it plays out and whether any lessons were learned.

I really hope they can sign both Huberdeau and Weegar to extensions. If Huberdeau won’t sign, he’s probably more valuable right now to most teams then Tkachuk. Teams would like that they would get Huberdeau for that one year at 5.9. Allows them to fit him in easier right now, because most teams have already structured their respective teams cap for the year.

I think the Flames after this trade are better than they were before the offseason.
How they handle these 2 assets, though, will determine how this trade looks long term outside one season.
This move took balls though. Gotta r3spect that.
