I personally think Tanev is still the best but we’ll see. Tkachuk isn’t a guy to create his own play game after game, as that was more Gaudreau’s role. Huberdeau is that guy who can and I think that’s a big deal. Florida is taking a gamble that Tkachuk will grind it out and make life difficult, and he will but he’s a bonehead. I know I was roasted before either Tkachuk or Gaudreau made their moves but I seriously think Gaudreau is a 85 point player in a non contract year going forward. And I think Tkachuk is a 75 point guy going forward. Huberdeau if he stays as is and plays with a mediocre player like Toffoli, is probably a 100 point player regardless because he can make his own plays.

It's suppose to be on the link below but in sportsnet fashion it's not working

Anyway, as a side note if he doesn’t sign I could totally see him being a perfect line mate with Ovechkin. Considering Backstrom isn’t there any more would there be a better for Ove? I could also see Washington giving up that coveted big package.

Maybe he'll be mad enough at the Panthers, he'll give Calgary a discount to spite them.

Hey, we can dream, right?

Yeah Huberdeau was blindsided by the trade. Up until yesterday probably thought he was going to retire a Panther.

I am expecting him to take a bit of time to process before extension talks get underway.

I'm a very open critic of Treliving, but yeah this was a good trade given the situation.

Sure there's no way to know how it will actually pan out, but no trades are sure things, so that's hardly unique.

And it was good to get it done so soon, removes a lot of uncertainty from next year's roster.

Lindholm doesn't really seen to be a guy that overly cares what's going on right now but you have to believe he even perked up at Huberdeau coming to town.

Those lines are wrong, Huby always was on the left wall. When Giroux came he for a while was on the right, never at the back.

Weegar isn't good on the PP because he doesn't walk the line well, due to his skating. That's why he never was used on the PP1 and not much at all even on the second unit

I don't disagree that the team on paper is thinner than it was last year.

But success on the ice isn't as simple as 100pt player in, 2 100pt players out. If you lose that many goals and points from your line-up, but somehow with the change of makeup, or personnel change, you become a better transition team, better at faceoffs and your PP goes from 10th to 5th, are you a better or worse team just because your total goal count is down?

The Flames had the best line in hockey last year, but in the playoffs they were largely neutralized by a goalie in round 1 and fixating on McDavid in round 2. It was the Backlund line that emerged as the most effective line.

I saw a rumor about the Flames being interested in Stastny, now he's as old as the hills, but still a decent player and dominant on Faceoffs. He would add veteran depth at centre that would take some of the pressure off Backlund.

There's more than 1 way to skin a cat, I still think the Flames need to add to their top 6 forwards but more for balance, fit and depth, not to try and replace what was lost with Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
