For me, personally, I would’ve preferred an A+ prospect, a 1st and a talented, controlled, future top 6 forward. That would’ve been the type of return that I would’ve preferred because that’s 3 possible impact players that could’ve played for your team for a decade + rather than the all in for 2023 move we’re seeing.

Not a double team in the literal sense. More so the way Johnny was defended from 2019-2021. The opposition knew the puck would funnel to the left wing and they would just defend accordingly. Put a tail on him backchecking, cut off all passing options, step up D in the neutral zone and transition threat contained.

That’s what made the Gaudreau-Tkachuk combo so dangerous, because they together forced the opposition to defend differently which offered each winger more time and space to create and play more off the puck. It was a beautiful combo.

Now maybe Huberdeau can use his size to protect and get around defenses more, but I don’t know his game too well. Haven’t seen much of him or Weager play. Maybe Lindholm will help alleviate the pressure. But the fear for me is Huberdeau’s production drops considerably, team plays worse and his trade value drops.

I once save a bus full of Nobel Laureates and babies from going off a cliff into a lava pool (the Nobel Laureates were renting the babies for the day).

The feeling of elation I felt after that rescue was utter garbage compared to the feeling I got from this trade. In other words, I am in favour of it.

(Also, six of the Nobel Laureates got the shivers from the experience and three of the babies cried, but they were otherwise unharmed. But I suspect you heard about that on the news.)
