Is it logical to assume that the Flames are trying to push off a rebuild to 24-25?

I mean looking at CapFriendly most of the core becomes UFA's

Next season we have two major free agents in Huberdeau. and Weeger. and no significant RFA's. With 36 million in cap space.

It looks to me like the Flames competitive window is this season and next, then the window slams shut hard.

I would think that Brad is pushing that narrative with Huberdeau and Weeger. We're going for a cup, even if you sign a shorter term deal to the end of next season, that's fine.

Leaves a huge hole in the middle for TB, no? Especially when Stamkos missed significant time the previous two seasons. Though they went a long way without Point in the POs.

Or even sign a longer deal and we will deal you to a contender when our window is done. Deal has to be attractive to other teams though.

3) I simply fear that the Flames will lose out on converting these new players into assets because of the organization's insistence on playing 2-3 home playoff games a year
This is nonsense. The organisation wants to win the Stanley Cup, and make money. You may not agree with the process, but that is what they are doing.

So true; it’s a 32 team league that’s capped and parity is real, every team (well most teams) pursuit and ultimate goal is the Cup and that’s no different for Calgary, credit to Tree for not throwing in the towel here and opening the window back up. It’s pretty amazing when you sit back and consider what he did with that trade and I don’t think he’s finished the blue prints for the coming year just yet either.

Steinberg confirms 1st round pick is top-3 protected, with it shifting to 2026 if it's a top-3 pick.

Naw the Flames, if the resign Huberdeau have given themselves a 4ish year window, which is what most windows are.

They actually have a great set of young prospects ready to take on depth roles at elc prices. If Huberdeau will stay, it changes everything.

Pretty sure Treliving would’ve only traded Tkachuk to a team that he was willing to re-sign for 8 years in order to maximize the asset return, so whoever was getting Tkachuk would’ve had to pay a King’s ransom.

For me, personally, I would’ve preferred an A+ prospect, a 1st and a talented, controlled, future top 6 forward. That would’ve been the type of return that I would’ve preferred because that’s 3 possible impact players that could’ve played for your team for a decade + rather than the all in for 2023 move we’re seeing.

Huberdeau is a fine replacement, but finding a top RW to ease pressure off Huberdeau is imperative, otherwise, teams will just double team him and the top line will be as easy to defend as it was back a couple years ago.
That's two different topics isn't it?

There isn't a trade to be made to wipe out the loss of Gaudreau nine days ago. But from the next morning on did they make the team better? Clearly yes.

Was this a crazy prediction or the genesis of the idea that somehow made it to Florida management.

If they are hell bent on still going all in right now, future be damned, might as well do whatever we can to sign Kadri. A Kadri-Huberdeau combo would probably get similar results to a Gaudreau-Tkachuk combo.

I really like this trade, but would looove to know what the Carolina offer was if they were in fact in the running. There's some serious depth in that organization as well.

Treliving has his swagger back... Coming up on 10 minutes late to start his presser.
