there is no comparison. Weegar is an absolute stud, Gudbranson is a 3rd oairing defenseman.

Although, the defense was absolutely obliterated by Draisaitl and McDavid in the BoA, so I don't really know what to think about our defense right now to be honest. If Weager does a better job at containing 97 and 29 then yes, it probably is a win.

Gudbranson is a bottom-pairing defenceman. Weegar is a #1.

Yes, for 1 year.
But that doesn't mean the team still isn't tight on cap. Treliving still has to sign Mangiapane and Kylington, after that, there may be only a few million left to find a #1 RW, pending a cap dump of course.
But I'm not holding my breath as cap dumps are expensive AF right now.

stranger things have happened but I doubt we have to worry about this...although is Florida is that bad in 2024 for the panthers things are probably looking up for this pick

I'm sort of amused that our year of drama (and summer of opera-level drama) shall continue.
Now we have even more questions:
1. Do they re-sign?
2. If they don't re-sign, do we trade them at deadline?
3. Can we trade them if we are running away with the division and Huberdeau is top-5 in scoring?
Exciting times continue.

Between Kylington and Valimaki, I could see Val being the one traded. I don't think he's one of Sutter's favorites, and we could still use OK's speed on the backend. IMO, I don't think Val gets a sniff with Darryl as coach.

you keep talking about things that were an issue BEFORE this trade
Yes for one year...look who comes of the books next season
Trade improves the on ice team from yesterday
improves the future
improves the cap situation
it boggles the mind really...every hockey writer is giving the flames top marks for THIS DEAL

The ONLY downgrade between Weegar and Gudbranson is Gudbranson is the better fighter.
Weegar is physical, and the better defencemen at both ends of the rink. I liked Gudbranson, and wanted him back, but he (and Zadorov) were both very sheltered. When they weren't, they got blown up.
Weegar is on the ice against much higher quality of competition. It isn't even close - Flames upgraded on defence.

That’s mine line of thinking on it, plus with Looch only being owed 1 mill real cash it’s a easy price to pay to get a still young and unproven Valimaki who’s in need of a change of scenery. Opens up a good amount of space to make a splash in UFA, some good names still floating out there!

I don't think Sutter is in love with either player to be honest. I could see Kylington being the Dman that gets moved if there was more interest out there.

Liked but lol this is one of the most un-family friendly forums ever.
I wouldn't ever subject children to this place. That's a straight shot to Debbie D./Karen street by the time they're growed up.
This place would be like Dementor Academy for children.

In preseason, I hope they play a line of Huberdeau, Dube, and Duehr for at least one shift.
Huby-Dube-Duehr! Make it happen, Darryl.

We'll see how it all comes together. However, the #1 biggest concern I had going into the offseason was not defense though, it was Gaudreau and Tkachuk. Losing 219 points is a gargantuan loss any way you slice it, that's where my focus will be on, how does Treliving mitigate the loss of his 2 top scorers? Huberdeau is a fine replacement, but finding a top RW to ease pressure off Huberdeau is imperative, otherwise, teams will just double team him and the top line will be as easy to defend as it was back a couple years ago.

Honestly, I’d be either trading them before the season starts, or no matter what trading them at the deadline even if we are leading the division/conference.
I don’t think Tre will end up in this position two years in a row.

There is an Eklund poll on twitter and the Flames are at 80% winning the trade...biggest spread I have ever seen.
And lets be real Oiler fans are doing their best to sway it...Flames sign Huby and that is going go to 90+

Monahan and Lucic more than pay for Huberdeau/Weegar’s raises.
