No offence but you are way off on weegar, he was statistically one of the best dmen in the league last year and i believe was 8th in norris voting even playing without ekblad during his injury. He is instantly our best dman imo

This trade screams of a bidding war. There's always going to be caveats (UFAs next year)

But Huberdeau and Weegar AND an decent prospect AND a 1st? Jesus.

Buffalo wished they got even close to that for Eichel.

And our only add is a 4th ?? Lol

Anyhow, since the rebuild is over, I'd really like to see another top 6 forward, preferably of the Center ilk, either through trade or signing.

Sutter is always right, and Mr Sutter says the foundation of your team in Goaltending, Defense and Center. Not 20 million in wingers.

Man, if Johnny had only decided earlier and did what Chucky did... Perhaps we'd be adding what we did in this deal, plus would have Mercer/Holtz plus 1st already in place for a signed Johnny

The guy had an awful haircut, he was the only NHL player who actually thought he had to go to SuperCuts for his haircuts due to their sponsorship. That is what he meant by looked bad last year.

So you're assuming the minority that doesn't like the deal has critical thinking on their side but the majority that like it are jumping the gun?

No lumping in there!

I'm sure some of the people that have liked the deal have given it a thought or two thanks.

No way it included Svech. He’s their franchise guy
Suspect Necas for sure as the roster piece

If the team is even sniffing around the playoffs, yes, he will.

This return is stellar in the near term, as the Flames can enter the season with a renewed sense of optimism, but I fully understand those who are skeptical of the return. If this team doesn't make the playoffs next year, and the two cogs of this deal don't resign, this deal frustrates any attempt to build something inside of five years, and will increase long term pain. The pressure is on to make the playoffs next year, so hopefully this group rises to the occasion.

I'm in the rebuild camp, but I can't fault Treliving for this return. All props to him. If the team is not willing to commit a few seasons to a serious rebuild, then the risk that comes with acquiring UFAs is something they have to live with to get this level of return. If this doesn't work out, the additional 2025 1st will be helpful, and maybe Schwindt becomes a contributor. No pr.oblems with this deal, will be interesting to see how this season evolves.

Weegar is excellent and like most D I think he will excel even more under Sutter. His defensive game should get better so I hope the Flames lock him up before he takes another step on an already excellent last season.

The deal really hinges on Huberdeau extending. Mainly because while he would garner a huge return at the deadline, this Flames team with Sutter and the current players is likely in a playoff or division title battle so they will not trade him if that is the case. So even though he could return a couple 1sts at the deadline, barring several injuries and a catastrophic season I don't see the team making that move. I do think Brad has a good idea on the number it will take to keep Huberdeau and hope to see a signing in the coming days.

Can we confirm that the 1st is lotto protected or top 10 protected? Either way it is a great asset as I think it is tough for any team to be a contender for 4 years, hopefully Florida is starting to bottom out in 2025.
They have a young team, I doubt they will be anywhere close to the lottery in 3 yrs

You guys didn't watch Weegar, he had the worst brain farts in the league. He looked great otherwise but horrible moments which at an aggregate dont show up in stats.

Meanwhile Sutter managed to turn 2 good players into 100+ point superstars and 2 bottom pairing defencemen into top-4 players on many other teams. I'm quite excited to see how Weegar adjusts to Sutter hockey
Yeah just look what Sutter did for Gudbranson

I’m intrigued by Schwindt. Sounds like we’re getting a real player there.

What a fun trade. Absolute jaw dropping surprise on this one.

Lose Johnny’s 115 points? No worries, here comes Huby.

Lindholm goes from getting set up by the best passer in the league…to getting setup by the OTHER best passer in the league.

This is just a *fun* trade. I really want these guys extended, and for Kadri to come in. That’d be a blast.

If you’d have told me on July 1st that both Tkachuk and Gaudreau were gone by July 23rd and that neither ended up in St Louis or Philly I would have called you crazy.

This upcoming season is going to be very fascinating on the ice. I can't wait to see how these players gel.

Tanev with Weegar could be an amazing duo.
He turned Reinhart and Bennett into decent players, while scoring 110 points.

Major accomplishment.
