Keep in mind that Hubs and Weegar are signed for this season, so any extensions will only go on the books in 2023 when the Lucic and Monahan contracts will be over.
I know Flames were burned by Gaudreau but he was saying he would sign. I have faith if both say no thanks to extensions they are gone. Tre could have held on to Tkachuk for another run.
A few people here are criminally underrating Huberdeau. I think those will be surprised that we just acquired an elite NHLer.
I am shook.
We acquired two elite NHLers actually. Somehow Rasmus Andersson is on our third defense pair if everyone plays their strong side. That's crazy, because Razzy is arguably a top pair defenseman

Huberdeau literally holds the NHL all time record for assists in a season by an LW. He is pretty dang good. I don’t know who will be playing RW with him and Lindholm, I don’t have a lot of confidence in anyone who’s currently on the roster doing a great job there.
I do hate that this just pushes the inevitable rebuild even farther down the road, but if they can get Huberdeau and Weegar signed to solid deals then it’s back to all-in mode. Too bad we won’t get Bedard.

He's signed through next deadline so they can offer him an 8 year deal today.
Both players can sign extensions tommorow if they and the team come to terms. It wouldn't kick in until Lucic and Monahan are off the books so no cap problems either.
Same age as Gaudreau, who he is replacing, and who everyone was ready to give 10M.
$9.75M (like Gaudreau) seems OK and they can give him 8 years if he really wants, structured for easy buyout. Or give him Tkachuk’s $9.5.
I would go higher if you have to. Paying a guy like Huberdeau top dollar will not be the reason why you suck if you do. If he is overpaid at 10.75 million he is over paid at 9.75. Cheap out on your 4th line and your 3rd d pairing. Obviously if you can get it done at a lower number do it, but if I was Brad I would be flexible on the top end.

I was on team 'Burn it Down' last summer. I watched us lost out best forward since Iggy for nothing. I was on team 'Burn it Down' when Tkachuk asked for a trade. That isn't the direction we're going in. And to be fair, there is no way to burn this team low enough for a high end pick in the next draft.
Markstrom, Tanev, Anderson, Hannifen guarantees a solid back end. Without the prodigal sons we were probably going to be slightly below average offensively next year.
But this trade changes everything. I don't know how/why this worked, but we got a Johnny replacement + + +. I am amazed. Great job GMBT
Tkachuk has been complaining for a few years that no one on the Flames has his back and he has to fight his own battle. My question is that is there anyone on the Panthers roster can fight his battle for or with him?
Huby is the best passer in the league, Weegar looked really bad last year. But he'll command a big contract just based on his stats. Florida selling high on him. This is an amazing trade lol!
