I still can't believe some posters are seeing this in a negative light. If you don't see this deal as a win nothing this team will ever accomplish will make you happy. Unless this team failing is what makes you happy in which case I truly don't understand.
As I’ve said, this is an excellent win now move. If this is a team on the cusp this trade is legendary.
But I get why there’s negativity. Sure, if it falls apart you can spin Huberdeau at the deadline. Weegar too. Those become futures. But the futures of all futures are at the top end of the upcoming draft and that’s no longer an option. So why punt the window down another year when you have a generational draft upcoming?
So, some sourness that we are laying the tracks in front of a moving train isn’t unreasonable. Without another move this trade is…perplexing. The group as it stands isn’t good enough, we need to add more.

This is an exciting trade. Yes, there is risk with the contracts, but I did not think anything resembling a Huberdeau level player, plus everything else was coming back. It has the potential to be an absolute home run of a trade, and even the UFA risks come to fruition, they can move the players by the deadline for more return. I don't believe any other trade would have had this level of upside.

If #23 can come back and play 82 games I'd love to see him resurrect himself with a decent year. He deserves it as he's busted his busted ass his whole time here.....and it would be a great feelgood story.
Unless they plan to go out and get Kadri, I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t want him back. Monny’s money comes off the books anyways and it will probably cost us draft capital to move him. Maybe he has a great year and you can get some value at the deadline.
Unbelievable trade! I’m stunned. I’ve always liked Weegar when I’ve watched the Panthers- I found him to be noticeable in a good way. It’s been an insane couple of weeks for this team. Way to go, BT! Bring on next season!
Did I hear correctly Huberdeau waived an NTC to allow this to happen? If so it helps with the reduce the collective angst around here from the last two weeks.
He had an 8-team no-trade list, so he either waived it or Calgary wasn't on it.

Florida's official release just says the 1st is lottery protected.
Florida has no 1st round picks now until 2026. Their ability to meaningfully improve the roster for the next few years is quite limited - there’s every chance that this will be a much higher pick than 18-30 that I otherwise expected we’d get.
I haven’t seen anything other than lottery protected - which to means so long as it isn’t #1 or #2 overall, we get the 2025 pick as #1 and #2 are the only two lottery spots.
This is such a lopsided win and the entire hockey world knows it
anyone complaining has me seriously doubting their affiliation to the Flames
I think, at least for me, the concern is if they aren’t re-signed before the TDL and if we are in a playoff spot we will likely decide to keep them and seemingly go through the same uncertainty this upcoming offseason.
If the Flames have learned from the JG debacle then I will be happy, I’m just currently unsure if they have or not and worry I might not know until the TDL.

Isn't it top 10 protected?
I thought I just read that somewhere.
I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't like this. The Panthers outscored their opponents by a greater margin than when Huberdeau was on the ice. He is a good player but doesn't drive play.
If he's supposed to be our best player, we won't be doing much.
You always want 10th rounded from the WHL, not surprising.
