Well, he’s been well over PPG for four years in a row. He hasn’t just had one great season.

Wonder how Chucky will like Maurice after he berated him in the bubble playoffs.

IF Huberdeau signs an extension, it becomes a close deal. But you also have to keep in mind that Huberdeau is 29 and statistically speaking has already peaked and can expect a decline in a couple of years.
IF the Flames flip them at the TDL, they can get some decent parts back. But you just know that if the Flames are anywhere near a playoff spot by that time, they will walk them to free agency. Recent history suggests that.
Also, I am not sold on Weegar. I think he is part of the list of players who overachieved in Florida (Duclair, Bennett, Marchment). I recall him being absolute dog #### in the playoffs and Florida fans wanted his head on a pike.
So yeah, a lot of this story still has to be determined, but it has the potential in 2 years to amount to just Shwindt and a lottery protected 2025 first rounder when all is said and done. Hard for me to get excited at this point.
|
If this trade doesn't get you excited then I don't know what will. I'd take this over Kyrou and a cap dump. For being stuck with a player who wanted out this is a homerun. I'm guessing Bratt + Holtz weren't on the table. Only way I get mad is if svechnikov was on the table or something. I am guessing the futures coming back weren't good enough to offset this deal.

The only way they lose the trade is if both walk for nothing. Sign one (preferably Huberdeau) and they win the trade. Sign both and they really win the trade. Move both and they likely do alright.

He was eighth in Norris voting back in 2020-21 actually, on a very fun pair with Gustav Forsling. He actually has to play his offside as Ekblad's partner.

With the 2 goalies, the 5 defencemen, and the 10 forwards (including Monahan),
the Flames have $13.475M in cap space. There’s room to sign a top-6 F in UFA. This is going to be an unpopular take, but I want Phil Kessel. I think he’s a better player than his reputation currently. I think the Flames could sign him for a reasonable price.

Gotta say Treliving pulled a rabbit out of the hat. Give props where they are due.

Underrated benefit of this trade is that Tkachuk is about as far away as physically possible on this continent. Out of sight, out of mind, and not having to face him regularly.

Sorry cant read it all.
Did I hear correctly Huberdeau waived an NTC to allow this to happen? If so it helps with the reduce the collective angst around here from the last two weeks.
I'm surprised, Bravo to Treliving that's a good haul.
Did we just get a LW 6' 200+ 29 years old who had MORE assists than JG? Tied him for 2nd in scoring? It may be fair to see him a point a game with Lindholm?
A 28 year old defenseman with a pretty good resume himself? Partner for Zadorov?
And just for a cherry on top to appease the blow it up crowd...a 1st round pick...sometime in the future hopefully 3 years. Still it IS a pick!

Presidents trophy winner
him, a first, and a prospect would have been a hot debate
then add a 115 point player

Have to think FLA owner wanted to simply make the big name splash, just as letting go Brunette as coach. Not too many times a player comes up like MT.
Probably figured JH wasn't going to sign there next year anyways or would he want him for 6 more years.
But even if you call that one for one swap slightly in the Panthers favour, the extras that BT got out of the Panthers is astounding.

I actually was thinking earlier today that Tkachuk could have really strong armed his destination with his willingness to sign (or I guess his lack of willingness). Fortunately it worked out for him and for us.

Dear Brad,
I don’t care if we are leading the Western Conference at the time, if Huberdeau hasn’t re-signed and if there is real doubt that he will, we need to move him at the deadline.
Best,
Me
