As mentioned, Hubs is only 2 months older than Gaudreau. I wonder if they just cross out Gaudreau's name on the 8x10.5 contract and write in Huberdeau's and call it a day?
If it's true that he spends his summers here, it would great if he was in person at the Dome for the media availability and they announce an extension at the same time.

I can’t believe (but actually I can) that people are somehow upset about this. Unreal.
This trade is a win even if we don’t resign them both. If we flip them for assets it’s still more assets than all the rumoured deals.
Huberdeau is elite. More so than Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

Getting a return for Huberdeau before the season would just add to the Florida deal. They could do the same with Weegar too and make it a full future haul.

Oh those pairings are being rolled at even strength nonstop. Weegar also to PP1.

The trade straight across is great. But if if these guys don’t sign the Tkachuk trade value is tied to selling Huberdeau as a rental next spring. I’d keep the cork in the champagne for now.

Yeah I can't see this as anything but a win.
Replacing Tkachuk@9M on a one year deal (told the team he won't re-sign) with Huberdeau@5.9M on a one year deal (maybe open to re-signing?). Better player on a cheaper deal with more re-signing potential, plus a top-pairing D, a first, and a prospect? No-brainer
If next year goes well and Huberdeau and Weegar slot in seamlessly, we've got $36M in cap space.
If next year goes poorly, we've got 2 excellent rentals to pawn off for 1sts and prospects.
The only angle where this is a bad move is tanking for Bedard, but realistically that was never an option anyway.
