I don't see anything with STL and Kyrou. He and Thomas have 1 last year of 2.8M (and ROR 1 yr to UFA) - I doubt they want to blow up their best remaining cap window.
Tarasenko still has a full NTC and I'd bet he's happy to stick around and hope for another PPG season...or accept a trade to somewhere that will extend him early. The rest of STL high AAVs have full NTC (except ROR and Buchnevich who has a 12 Team NTC...not what CGY needs anyways)
I think STL would have to be a complicated 3 team deal:

Jesus, that is f-ing gruesome! If that happened it might just be the final straw for me with this team.

That can be Mercer, or the combo of a 1st and Holtz/Nemec.

I feel the same. Bratt is ok but shouldn't be the centerpiece just not enough track record.

I personally think the Pittsburgh team as a whole isn’t good, but if Burke would offer Kapanen, 2 1sts, and a 2nd round pick this year, I’d be tempted.

Burke did trade 2 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel with the Leafs. The draft picks ended up being Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton

Agree...which is why I wouldn't target Bratt.
I don't think very much will be added to either Kyrou or Bratt...but especially not Kyrou who has 1 sweetheart year at 2.8M.

Lesser Prospect or 2023 3rd (Walsh/Tucker)

FYI Severson is still NJD's #1D, despite what the paycheques say.
He's certainly better than Manson or Chiarot so he'll be worth a haul at TDL.

Perhaps they are really far apart on an extension with Severson and anticipate trading him? I could definitely see an RHD on the table...which one is probably contingent on a Severson extension or not.
|
NJD rumoured to be looking to move Severson. I expect they’d want to include him in any deal for Tkachuk. Not ideal for the Flames long-term, but in the short term RHD is sketchy until Tanev is healthy.

I just hope that Treliving and whomever he is negotiating with keeps their cards close and that the Tkachuk camp doesn't hear of competing offers causing him to change what teams he will sign for. That would suck.
I am assuming now that offer sheets are off the table due to the arbitration, that other teams can't approach him any more either just to talk. Is that a safe assumption?

Yeah. I think there’s a chance Pittsburgh misses the playoffs. They’re aging and their prospects are mediocre.

I assume Tkachuk will say that since he is agreeing to sign a long term contract with a number of teams, he's free to talk to all of those teams to gauge their interest.

I would assume the opposite.
That if Tkachuk gave the team a list of places he would go to for a long term extension he would need the freedom to talk with those teams about the contract details.
Flames wont make a deal with a team that cannot come to an agreement with Tkachuk on a deal.

I don’t love the Kapanen, 2 1sts and a second trade at all.
Kapanen is not nearly on the same level as some of the other names being mentioned.
And if Pittsburgh has two good seasons then you’re trading Tkachuk for two picks in the 20-30 range.
At least with a piece like Bratt or Kyrou you know you’re getting at least one piece that’s young top 6 talent.

I really like Jesper Bratt. I wouldn't hate him as part of a return for Tkachuk. Plus, he's Swedish, so he might actually like it here
Now, we would probably not finish last in the league if we acquired a productive player in the Tkachuk trade, so that may be considered a negative.

If Mercer and Holtz are off the table, the Devils have to include their 2023 1st. I do think Foote is a piece to target. Probably the Devil’s best prospect after the big two of Holtz and Hughes - big, physical, good hands, NHL ready.
Bratt + Foote + Severson + 2023 1st. Could work for both teams.

Oh, I should explain that I’d hope for a couple things:
1) Pittsburgh doesn’t make the playoffs
2) Kapanen or the following years’ first can be used to move up in the draft
Ideally for sure you’d want a partner who’s not in a position to make the playoffs.

I just assumed Bratt was American… didn’t realize he was a Swede. Nameism I guess. I’m on board now!
