OK...or maybe I'll do the same exercise through age 24 with another pair of guys drafted 6 rds apart in the same draft:

Player A: 318gp 144G 260P

Player B: 208gp 58G 127P

Player A has been out of the league for 3 seasons after touring 8 teams in his last 6 years. He had a great career with over 1000 games and 373 goals.

Player B just signed yet another $5M+ contract; he's approaching 1200 gp and has scored 421 goals. Pretty impressive considering the head start Player A had.

For reference:
Bratt: 307gp 70G 203P

Tkachuk: 431gp 152G 382P

By playing with Gaudreau in a year where everything went right offensively.
Backlund and Frolik carried him the year he got 77 points too. What a lucky guy to have two studs like those two to hand deliver him 77 points.

Ooohhh do tell who the players are….did you find one solitary example to refute the common assumption that Bratt will never be half the player that Tkachuk will be?

All you've accomplished is made Calgary no one's destination.
No. That will come at a significant cost to the player, one less contract year (7 vs 8 year), a lost season of production = potentially less $, 2023 cap increase of only 2 MM, plus competition with potential high end 2023 free agents.

Flames reputation can never be lower than Edmonton's - really?

Nobody will be wanting out...lol

And we already know the destination status the last few weeks. Your point?

Who carried him to 60 points the next year or 43 in the bubble season?

nobody is saying he is bad just he isn't a top 5 or 10 player or whatever

I would take the under on 82

I’ll take the over if you will take the bet that you offered up that the Flames will be better in the playoffs this coming year than they were last year.

A select few can, but I take your point. Those are the guys that bring championships imo and are worth the $10 mil+ contracts. The path to contention looks a lot more difficult when a winger is the best guy on the team and the biggest contract on the team. I don't see how signing Tkachuk to a long term 10mil aav+ contract sets this current team up for winning, even if he were willing to stay. Just imo.

Bratt strikes me as a Nik Hagman equivalent from the Phaneuf trade.

It's fine if you want to tack him on but center the trade around a proper future piece.

That can be Mercer, or the combo of a 1st and Holtz/Nemec.

I assume that whoever acquires Tkachuk will also play him with top players, so I doubt he will take too much of a hit in terms of production.

That is underselling Bratt hard

Thats an oddly specific amount of info to fire off at a stranger you run into at Safeway.

Almost as if the guy perhaps got that "tidbit" from the leaked original offer that Strickland said there was no truth to.

Orange J's > Safeway

He had 41 even strength points to Backlund's 37 that year.

Tkachuk can be your best player - but he can't be your best player by a mile. This is the same argument people made about Gaudreau, but we only need to look up at Edmonton to realize that having your best player - or your 2 or 3 best players - in an otherwise lousy team leads to moderate success at best, and usually poor results. Tkachuk needs good players to play with, but he is 100% an elite-level player in his own right.

As for the Backlund comment - Backlund has always been extremely underrated, but it is no surprise that Backlund's best years have been with Tkachuk (and no surprise that Backlund also makes those around him better). Synergy is a thing - and Tkachuk just showed that if you play him with other elite level players, he will produce as one. That's not easy.

It really is synergy - Gaudreau just had his best season in his career. So did Lindholm. Tkachuk was far from a passenger, and players who play with him are suddenly experiencing career years. It will be interesting to see where he goes and we can see not only how he does, but how his future line mates do as well.

I am ok with the trade. Like I said, I have always disliked his antics, but he is 100% an elite-level player who makes everyone around him better.

The chances of Calgary sitting a player purely for spite is maybe the dumbest suggestion ever on this board.

Because that chance is zero.

And I know that's a low bar in the first place.

If NJ is the partner, throw Markstrom in too. They are a goalie away from being really good, and he'll just rot away here with the direction of the team.

Calgary is not rebuilding, as much as many (myself included) wish they would.

Yeah, as if Francis wouldn't be the one Tweeting that out himself if it was such a sure thing.
