Absolutely this.

Fox*. Johnny Hockey. Don't let Chucky be the trifecta of Americans who have torched us...

(*Fox of course diff scenario and we ultimately used him as pawn in a good trade for us, but still...)

No matter what happens though don’t continue to drag all this out, I get there’s a process to all this but at some point it can’t be at the detriment of the team.
If you are saying 9.25 is the max then trade him right now because there is a 0% chance he takes that

Why would the Flames want to go that route? That only helps escalate the salary structure?

Without Gaudreau, it'll be hard to judge what kind of performance Tkachuk will have going forward. It seems like he might even bolt at the first sign that he can. So, I'd sign him to a bridge deal with no NMC or NTC of any kind. The final season offer him a good contract well ahead of time to see if he'll re-sign or if he wants to test the free agency market. Trade him as fast as you can if he's gonna do what Gaudreau had been doing and dragging his feet until the last few hours to announce he's not coming back. It's BS to lose another high profile asset and get nothing back in return. Also, the guy has to mature up in the playoffs and not keep getting injured and be totally useless.

Evolving Hockey predicts contract length and AAV and they're usually pretty close.

For Tkachuk they have the most likely contract at 8 years x 11.27M AAV.

5 years x 5.83M AAV for Mangiapane.

Players who are in their final year Restricted Free Agency are only entitled to a 1 year term.

Edit: already answered.

I see it as a path to get him inked to a new deal but giving him one more big contract to cash in on. Win-win.

If it were me? I would trade him and hit the reset button.
I just don't see the org doing that.

Done. Tkachuk is not worth overpaying and pushing this franchise into another 4-7 year mediocre tail spin before accepting the inevitable fate of rebuilding. My opinion obviously and I get that some here still see a competitive roster with a competitive coach but this team won’t be doing damage anytime soon.

If that's the value he'll command, then trade him. This team won't be able to contend with Tkachuk at that value.

This is how the conversation with Chucky should go:
“What’s your plan Matthew? Do you want to stay here long term? I am not willing to go through the same situation with you that I went with Johnny. If you don’t want to be here just tell me now so I can facilitate a trade. If you do want to be here, let’s bang out 9 years of contracts and build you a legacy.”

Treliving needs to not **** around with this signing/trade.

If you want trade Tkachuk, it's best time to do it. His value is highest at the moment and draft pick value is lowest during the offseason.
Our main goal should find elite C and elite D. And next years draft may have some of those prospects.
But if you keep him I hope we can sign him 8 years less than 9 million per.

Tkachuk's value also likely plummets when he's on pace for 65 points next season instead of the 104 he finished with.

I'd have to say the Preds contract with Forsberg is looking super great right now when Gaudreau is being overpaid by Columbus and what Tkachuk's wants. It really sucks that you got guys that sweet talk, want to get paid, but don't really want to be part of the organization.
