Mathew Tkachuk and other key RFA signing watch thread
Kinda tired of seeing the Gaudreau signing watch thread with that gong show being established now. On to the next; trade him, try to sign him/go through all that again, what’s your stance on Chucky?? Mangi and Kylington can also be of discussion as they are two key RFA’s that would be great to figure out versus dragging out through the whole summer.

Either a long term deal in the next week or so or deal him. Simple as that.
They can’t let it drag on.

It most likely will drag on. RFA signings tend to.

Once Brady signed long term to play in Canada, my belief that Matthew wouldn't went out the window. He will, obviously for the right price and I believe the Flames will sign him to an 8 year deal before the season starts and make him captain.

Tkachuk's stats will likely decrease without Gaudreau. I just can't stand the Flames going all in on building around a winger yet again. Trade him for high end futures while his value is at a high and rebuild properly for once in my lifetime.

I'm hoping Brad takes the hint when Tkachuk refuses an 8 year, $84 million extension.

Tkachuck
I hope they're working hard on sorting out if he wants to be here right now, offer him an extension now, see if he's interested in it, sign him over the next week here or shift gears to shopping him. Him signing the QO and riding out the year is the worst option, even if the plan is to shop him at the deadline the return will be less than trading him now instead when his numbers were inflated from playing with Gaudreau.
Mangiapane
I'm back and forth on this one, think he's got potential to be a hell of a player, and will get a shot on the top line most likely if he's here this year. He was potentially the odd one out if we were taking another shot with Johnny & Matt. But now if we're not going full rebuild he'll have a big role going forward. I'd say a 5x5 type contract wouldn't be bonkers, and puts him in a good spot/age for his next deal, doesn't hurt too bad if he doesn't progress much past what he is already.
Kylington
If he's going to have another couple seasons paired with Tanev he's only going to gain more confidence & improve. Young enough he can help out if we shift into a rebuild he can be part of it here instead of having to trade him. Hopefully they're trying to lock him up for a longer deal at a more reasonable number, as if you only do a short contract with him it could bite in the next couple years when it's up for renewal.
TLDR - Figure out Chucky ASAP as it obviously drives the plan for this team over the next few years. I'd say sign Mangi & Kylington to at least 5yr deals regardless though. If we really go south can probably trade them anyway.

Tkachuck will say the same things as Gaudreau and almost all other players do in this situation, he likes Calgary and wants to play here. It's standard protocol. It's up to Tre if he wants to believe that stuff again.

The Flames can't take the risk that Tkachuk could possibly be injured at the deadline. A decision needs to be made before arbitration.

Sign him or trade him before the season starts. Absolutely cannot let this be Johnny 2.0.

Flames are going to do everything they can to sign him, but I think they should trade him while they can. I don't think he has the skills to repeat the season he just had and is not a guy you build around. The game is about speed, and Tkachuk is not a good skater. Without a player like Gaudreau to carry the mail, Tkachuk will see a regression in his scoring and effectiveness. Trade him, get a lot while you can, and look to the future.

I think Tkachuk is more money driven than Gaudreau so it's possible he could be enticed by a very large 8 year offer but how long do you wait for him to make a decision this summer? That's the question. I don't think the team can afford to go into September with him still on the roster playing out the last year of his contract.

You simply cannot start the season with Tkachuk on a one year contract.

Did I hear correctly that Tkachuk only has until July 22nd to accept his QO?

Exactly...unfortunately trading him know is so much harder as so many teams that would want him have no cap space.
Who in a position to compete has 9 mil plus to spend.

I don't think that's going to be a problem. It's in his best interest to sign it.
