It’s comical how we all have “sources”, on both sides of the signing.
I was told by a friend of mine at the end of the regular season that “JG loves Calgary and will do whatever it takes to re-sign”. When I asked who his source was for that, he answered “one of his friends”.

I think the Flames will lock him up - final number will be 8yrs/$76-80m.

I posted this on Twitter and in the Flames subreddit. Might as well put it here:

These over the top scenarios never pan out. Boston already has Marchand and Hall on the left side. Pasternak is a RHS RW rocket Richard candidate.
Makes no sense whatsoever.

I’m honestly prepared for whatever. If he stays then yay. If he leaves then I’m sure we’ll eventually draft another player of his caliber in the future

Still extremely confident. I always expected this to go close to the distance, look who his agent is.

I'm way behind in this thread but in case nobody responded, one example is Anders Lee.

Pasternak’s name has been out there a bit.
In a way the move is not that different from what many thought the Flames could and would do when there were all the Taylor Hall rumors. Flip one of your good players for youth and sign a replacement player in free agency.
It is pretty far fetched but still some dots can be connected for a Johnny in Boston. Montgomery is one and living in the city previously is another as is being close to home. The Bruins are rumored to be looking for offensive help as well. I have them as a dark horse to get Johnny if he leaves

Johnny Gaudreau has signed a 7x11.5 Million Dollar deal with ________ ________?
Carolina Hurricanes
Buffalo Sabers
Boston Bruins
New York Islanders
Philadelphia Flyers
Ottawa Senators
Columbus BlueJackets
CSKA Moscow
Anywhere but the Calgary Flames at this point. I hope I eat a lot of crow but this boy gone gone gone.

And we didn't even get to why it makes no sense for NJD. Nor would an unsigned Tkachuk.

I believe you’re 1.5M AAV high, and you’ve got teams on your list that still couldn’t even afford a 10M AAV.

Pastrnak’s name was out there before the coaching change (and Bergeron was gonna retire). That all changed.

And that contract totals 80.5M. So if he does it, he’s likely giving up millions. If he does that, there was nothing Calgary could have done.

I mean I’m no math wizard but 11.5x7 and 10x8 are awfully close my friend. Jon isn’t going leave 10 Million on the table, considering it’s locked money even if a meteor drops on him the day after it’s signed.
There is no cap in Moscow and any team can figure out to fit a player of Jon’s calibre on the roster if they really want to… Look at Dem Vegas Golden Knights. Jon makes 60-70pt players 100pt players.
If you think 11.5 is high or too much go look at Artemi Panarin’s Deal and I personally would rather have Jon over Artemi.

Panarin’s an outlier though.

Or he’s an elite LW who puts up 90-100 pts a year and makes potato players into Vodka. I don’t think the contract is an outliner for Jon’s team. He will fall between Kucherov and Panarin that’s 9.5-11.6, I believe Calgary offered the 9.5x8 Kucherov/Stone deal already and his team said Marner/Panarin 10.6-11.6 money please.
