I did the same thing in a situation like that about 4 years ago. My instincts within the first week or two were confirmed when i met the previous employee for coffee (she onboarded me) and basically said it sucks but if you stick it out you can get another good job.
I lasted 6 months. 3 months of that was looking for a new job.
Cut bait. no sense sticking around for that crap

You (and I) weren’t there so we don’t know what should, or could, have been done. I just don’t think a nice restaurant is the place to be loud. Go to a lounge or something.
For my parents Olive Garden is fancy. For the to splurge on a fancy meal for a major milestone is rare. I think they have the right to be disappointed in other people’s behaviour.

That may be true. But that doesn’t make the person who passes on the inside a ‘victim.’ He’s still a reckless #######, and reckless #######s are responsible for far more dangerous highways situations than left-lane strugglers.

Well, because I've had the flu before, and it felt like a bad flu, but I took a covid test every 2nd day and every single one was negative, so apparently it wasn't that.
I suppose it could have been some other flu-like illness of which I am unaware.

In this case, if I'd been run over by said clowns, it would have resulted in a loss of money for a business in the low 8 figures. 95% of the time, what you've said is true, I could disappear and others would manage, but in this case we just had two major things that ended up being scheduled within a 3 week period and in one case my involvement was absolutely necessary, while in the other it was "end of the world" crucial.
What I really should have done was not wait a month after I got over the original illness, but when it had only been a couple of weeks since I'd recovered I was still thinking "I'll give it a bit and it'll probably get better".

If you'd read my post you'd realize that I'm NOT sick. I have no illness that could possibly be transmitted. The illness that I DID have, during which I stayed home, caused some sort of lasting damage to my lungs that is causing me to cough. So, in closing, go #### yourself?

I did this exact same thing earlier this year. Lasted two months… it was definitely the right decision for me. Listen to your gut.

You didn't even bother going to the doctor, how do you know you weren't sick?

Because I'm not a complete moron, and I can tell when I'm not sick anymore? Do you go to the doctor every time you get a cold or do you stay home, stay hydrated, take some flu medication and sleep it off until your symptoms go away? Because unless something goes sideways and you start coughing up blood or something, every normal human being does the latter... I don't book a doctor's appointment just for being under the weather, nor do I go see a doctor to get confirmation that I'm no longer sick afterwards. That's just stupid.

Working nowhere for a little bit until you find a palatable solution is better than working in hell indefinitely. Every time.
Don't put up with it just because it's familiar. You show people how to treat you by what you'll tolerate. If you are willing to walk away without a second thought because it's not on the terms you signed up for then you're signaling to people that your time and contributions are valuable and you'll either find something better or they will back track and be more accommodating to you in order to keep you there.

Ok, at this point, I'm just going to assume you are trolling.
You posted whining about not being able to get a doctor's appointment at the time that you wanted because you were at work.
So clearly, you don't know how to stay home when you are sick, nor do you know when you are sick, nor do you understand that doctor's office don't exist purely to provide appointments to you.

Are you illiterate? Because you're typing posts, but they don't indicate that you've read anything I've posted so it's very confusing. Let me see if I can explain this in a way a twelve year old would understand, because apparently that is the level that is necessary to get through here.
1. I was sick. I knew I was sick, because it felt like I had the flu, which I have had many times before. I tested to make sure it wasn't COVID. I remained at home until flu symptoms subsided, after about a week. I didn't need a doctor's appointment for any of this.
2. I had a post-viral cough. This isn't that uncommon, but usually it goes away after a few days, maybe a week. Accordingly, I didn't need a doctor's appointment for that either.
3. It has now been a month plus, and the cough is not gone, which now has risen to the point of something I should see a doctor for. However, it's very difficult to find time in the middle of the day to book an appointment, so I wanted to book something first thing in the morning so I could go to the doctor and THEN go to work. I can't do it after work because I am here too late. This is apparently impossible, and I thought that was annoying, as is coughing. So I posted a gear grinder.
4. The doctor's office - or more accurately the medical clinic that I go to - DOES exist purely to provide appointments to me, and to other patients. That is its primary reason for existence - meeting with patients to provide medical advice and issue recommendations for treatment and prescriptions. You are now saying stupid things just for the sake of disagreeing.

You’ve never had phlegm or fluid build up in your lungs that long outlasts your illness? I guess consider yourself lucky… I assumed this had happened to pretty much everyone at least once.

Depends on if you consider a lingering cough, "sick". By that measure I'd be considered "sick" about six months out of the year. (Asthma's fun! *cough*)
CHL is making a distinction between being acutely ill and contagious, and having long-lasting symptoms as a result of the original infection but not being acutely ill anymore. This seems pretty straightforward; it ain't rocket surgery.

Exactly. It's legitimately the same exact thing as being mad at someone for going to work and having an athsma attack. Newsflash: asthma isn't contagious. Neither is damaged lung tissue.

That's what I'm doing now that the thing that was causing me to be at work 14+ hours all week appears to be about to resolve, I think. I'd rather see my actual doctor but it should be fine to do it that way. Just a mild annoyance... a gear grinder, you might say.

Make sure the Walk-in sends a note to your family Doc and then try and set up a phone consult follow-up with your actual doc in a week or so.
