It IS calling people stupid, but in different words. Kane made the profoundly stupid decision not to protect any of his assets and to run up unpaid debts with bookies.
On what possible grounds do you have a problem with one way of expressing it but not the other?
I just don't like the word stupid regarding gambling problem. That's all, nothing against you personally.

OK, I understand your point. However, I do think Kane has made some really stupid choices that had nothing to do with his gambling problem, so I feel I have grounds to apply the word to him specifically.

Just an aside but I wish people here would frame their arguments this way more often.
Instead so many posters make things personal when they disagree with someone. Which is asinine when often they don't even know the person at the other end.
Frame arguments around what was said, not the poster that said it.

I agree, that's why some times it's just bickering back and forth and accomplish nothing. I rarely chime in sensitive topic, just this time it hits a little too close to home.

Yes, Kane made a lot of unwise choices. Okay, you have ground to apply the word to him specifically. I'm sorry if what I said about you don't know the situation, gambling has destroyed the life of a childhood friend, it's just that it hit a little too close to home.

I'm sorry to hear that. Many years ago, I worked for a while as a blackjack dealer, and I saw some things I'd rather not have seen. (That's why I quit.) I do know how gambling addictions ruin lives – though, of course, nothing I saw was on this scale.
I just can't help marvelling at a guy who took the trouble to find someone who would take his marker for $26 million. It takes effort to dig a hole that deep.

I posted this in another thread, but don't want it missed, about how Evander Kane is a Grade A ######-nozzle. Miraculously, InternationalVillager has yet to respond.
Lots of interesting stories about the Black pioneers, and the original Black hockey league. Humbling, and educating. Then a photo collage of prominent former players, like Oree, Iginla, Fuhr, etc;
Further the opposite side, another collage of the future Black prospects. (I’m awful with knowing prospects outside of my own club, so didn’t know any of them)
Then current Black NHLers, like our own Kylington.. then it goes on Byfield, Simmons, both Jones brothers, Simmonds, the Oilers own Darnell Nurse (his sister featured on opposite womens photo wall too). All of them are mentioned with a photo. So stepping outside my Flames bias fandom, I can appreciate Nurse, & Fuhr being profiled, due to the bigger issue of racism in this sport we love.
But ya know who’s profile wasn’t shown? Zero photos? Like he doesn’t exist?
You guessed it, Evander Kane. Maybe his colleagues, the PA and NHL have a similar position to the type of person he is, like many of us on this board.
Kane getting into it with Lucic.
Kane was mouthing off to Stone.
Tkachuk and Kylington were calling him “poor” in the box.
I’m sure the Flames likely haven’t gotten into the multiple abortions Kane has paid for.
But before some go gasping and grabbing their pearls about all this, it’s a two way street and Kane is notorious for trash talking. Backlund and him were trash talking too last night and Backlund kept pointing to his cheek. There a good chance that was probably because Kane was calling him really something not nice (use your imagination) and Backlund was playing along and offering Kane to give him a kiss.
I just can't help marvelling at a guy who took the trouble to find someone who would take his marker for $26 million. It takes effort to dig a hole that deep.
And that’s “public” losses.
You don’t get involved in that much action (he’s probably won $10MM+ and the lost $36MM+) and not eventually run into “alternative financers” (they’ll find you) of various legitimacy along the way. The debts to those people aren’t public record.

Kane's s guy with multiple accusations of assault by women even before being accused of horrendous stuff by his ex wife. Were it merely gambling issues and he seemed an otherwise decent guy, I would have compassion for him, but he doesn't seem an otherwise decent guy. He seems like a guy that has no business being a handsomely paid star in a family entertainment business and it looks bad on both the Oilers and the league for him to be employed as such.

I didn't follow the LA series closely so I don't know his stats in that series, but game 1 he wasn't relevant at all beside being a clown. Unless he picks it up the rest of this series, he is what he is. Ok in regular season and disappears in playoff, and I don't think any team would be lining up to sign him. At least I hope there is no team lining up to sign him. May be Oilers will and their fans will say they outbid everybody to land him.

He scored a goal/game pace against LA, and was a little under a point/game pace through the regular season. It's not really his on-ice play that's awful. He just seems like an awful person.

To avoid another possible “we want 10” chant in game two, perhaps CP needs to create a short list of possible chant options.
I’d like to suggest;
“Kane needs money”
“Kane has no money”
Perhaps others will chime in with ideas.
I also would like to hear the “oilers suck” version of baby shark played in house. Even if it’s just the beat and let the crowd sing the words.

For Kane, could just be "Alimony clap clap clap-clap-clap".
If the goalies get off to a rough start again, "You're no Otter clap clap clap-clap-clap". Jab at the current opponent and a shoutout to a worthy one, in one chant!
McDavid/refs will probably earn a "Call the dive! Call the dive!" at some point.
Can we get a "Fight Lucic! Fight Lucic!" for Kassian?
Yes, gambling is addictive and can ruin lives. Just like alcool.
But this is a hockey game, and they are playing for keeps. They chirp at each other, and most fans would not believe what they say - all's fair in war.
It is hilarious what Tkachuk said, and Kane deserves it. If you don't want people chirping you, don't do stupid or dooshbaggy things.
Anyone who thinks Tkachuk shouldn't say that needs to seriously wake up and get a life.
Some part of this also is Kane’s purposeful development of his image and the stuff that falls out. Of course I don’t know him and what he’s been through.
However, the one image I will associate with this guy is doing push-ups with stacks of money on his back and thinking he’s too good for Winnipeg and Buffalo. Not surprised that he had trouble holding onto his earnings as there will always be people lining up to help him spend it.
