Judging by that quote from Sutter I doubt we see any changes at all by puck drop.

It’s a one line team that became half a line team in the playoffs
We used to have some secondary scoring with Mangi then Dube but they checked out already

I've decided Dallas is purposefully goading Matty et al into penalties/fights because they are trying to disrupt the 5 on 5 play and thus are biggest advantage ...depth
Play hard , smart and WIN ! GFG !

Pretty much the season comes down to this game. Win it and prove to the fans that this year is different. Lose it and show that the past 30+ years of choking is a part of Flames' reality now and forever.
I have a feeling how it will go, but don't want to jinx it. GFG!

Maybe Dallas defense will be a little more rushed with the puck in the corners and it will result in a few extra turnovers? That's really the only reason I can possibly see for him being that high in the lineup. Yikes.

I am not sure why you're not following what I am saying here. Let's look at an example.
You have 10 events where there is a shooter in the high danger area. In scenario 1, that player shoots 10 times. The result: close to 10 high danger chances (a couple probably get blocked). In scenario 2, that player chooses to pass every time. In doing so, some of the passes will not connect, therefore there will be fewer high danger chances recorded. However, when the pass connects, there is a higher likelihood of a goal.
In scenario 1, the team is generating more high danger chances, but will have a lower rate of success. In scenario 2, they will have fewer chances, but a high rate of success (I am not saying more goals overall, I am saying a higher shooting percentage).
That, in an exaggerated state, is what is going on with the Flames right now. In the regular season, they went with the pass a lot. And it worked for them. In this series, they have been shooting from everywhere.
Result: high danger shot totals are there, but their shooting percentage is down, because it is easier for the goalie to save a direct shot than a cross-crease pass shot.
|
I think the answer is who's doing it, because the totals are the same.
To record a high danger event you need a shot from the homeplate with one of the following happening
- pass into the home plate area and a shot attempt
- deflection inside the home plate
- rebound inside the home plate
So it's not like they're just carrying it into the home plate area and shooting it more often, because their high danger totals suggest that's true.
But where we have some common ground I think? Who's doing it.
In the regular season the top line was 1-2-3 in HD/60. Playoffs not even close ... middle six is getting it done for chance generation and not scoring.
Regular season the top line was generating an average of 14.5 HD60 per game five on five. Playoffs they are about 8.0
Middle six in the regular season averaged about 11, playoffs 15.5
So yeah the team itself no real change, but you have a heck of a point with the top line.

I can't imagine being as miserable as this. Is this all show for the forum or is this just your general outlook on life?
Flames will tie the series tonight and run away with it from here. Go Flames Go!

I think this is more of 'message" being sent to Mangiapane than anything. My guess is that it is short-lived and he will be back in his normal spot by the end of the first period.

Won't be watching tonight, and not even because of any stress or anxiety. I just cannot stand to watch Dallas Stars hockey, it is the most boring product I've ever seen. I tuned out the last 2 games after the 2nd because I was falling asleep, so now I'm not even going to bother. If the Flames somehow advance and play a team that doesn't try to bore the opposition to death I'll go back to watching them live

This is interesting indeed, the way I see in the past 2 games, Lucic and Lewis has been playing great as a 4th line, they generated chances but lack finisher. So put Mang in there to finish what the 2 L's generate, might work.

this is a stress ball of a game and lord help us if we lose. That said, I take a tonne of comfort having Sutter at the helm and knowing he'll do everything he can.

Wonder if Darryl gets nervous.
Are Sutter butterflies more like wasps?

Butterflies get the Sutters. Not the other way around.

Anyone else taking Dallas to win the series at +100 so if Calgary doesn't win not all is lost
