Yes, to those who know me on CP, I moved to London for a year or more…..
Crash the net, don’t be perimeter players.
For the love of god, we need Toffoli, Backlund and Hanifin to step up their games. Not to mention the other usual suspects.

As someone who's lived in Germany since 2018, can relate. I also got up at 4 am to watch them get blown out 6-0 to the Canucks on the opening day of the season in 2008-09 when I was at university in England, a fun memory.
GFG.

Your argument is that there are more chances, so they should be getting more goals, but are unlucky.
I am saying they are getting more chances, but those chances have a significantly lower likelihood of success (which is what we are seeing)

So we're talking eye test and your view then?

Oh man that second line really stinks now. Maybe that should be the fourth line. This team really needs to develop another center somehow. Slim pickings after Lindholm isn't it.

Backlund hasn't scored in 20 games.
Toffoli has one goal in his last 15.
That is the foundation of your second line. If you are changing things, why not address the main issue?

Not sure what you're saying with the first line. As to the second, I disagree.
I am not sure why you're not following what I am saying here. Let's look at an example.
You have 10 events where there is a shooter in the high danger area. In scenario 1, that player shoots 10 times. The result: close to 10 high danger chances (a couple probably get blocked). In scenario 2, that player chooses to pass every time. In doing so, some of the passes will not connect, therefore there will be fewer high danger chances recorded. However, when the pass connects, there is a higher likelihood of a goal.
In scenario 1, the team is generating more high danger chances, but will have a lower rate of success. In scenario 2, they will have fewer chances, but a high rate of success (I am not saying more goals overall, I am saying a higher shooting percentage).
That, in an exaggerated state, is what is going on with the Flames right now. In the regular season, they went with the pass a lot. And it worked for them. In this series, they have been shooting from everywhere.
Result: high danger shot totals are there, but their shooting percentage is down, because it is easier for the goalie to save a direct shot than a cross-crease pass shot.

Maybe they were put together to form the new 4th line? They got Ritchie on their left wing....
What we considered to be the 4th line was our best line last game and they have Mangiapane on their right wing. Maybe that's our new 2nd line?

They sort of do if instead of looking at it like:
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Ritchie-Backlund-Toffoli
Dube-Jarnkrok-Coleman
Lucic-Lewis-Mangiapane
You look at it as:
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Dube-Jarnkrok-Coleman
Lucic-Lewis-Mangiapane
Ritchie-Backlund-Toffoli

I'm for experimenting with the lines. I find Ritchie an odd fit on Backlund's line, but can see the rationale of pairing Mangiapane with Lucic's line. I've felt the Looch line has got WAY too much ice, so at least putting Mang with them can elevate their finish and mobility.
Team needs a spark. So Sutter is looking for some spark plugs.

The second and third line centers on this team haven't scored a goal in twenty consecutive games. That's the main issue. Swapping the 12th/13th forward on the team out for a 35 goal scorer does not exactly inspire confidence in terms of getting them going. Judging by that quote from Sutter I doubt we see any changes at all by puck drop.

I am glad that the numbers give rise to optimism. The Flames have not appeared dangerous but it may just be that my emotional reaction to them not scoring is altering my perceptions. It is certainly what Sutter refers to in his scrums. When it was 2-2 it felt like the next goal wins the game as neither team felt all that dangerous. That may be wrong but the team looks different and less dangerous than the team in the regular season. I hope the stats bear out and they get some puck luck moving forward.

Hahaha - Darryl Sutter, "I guess box him out."
He liked some of the questions, but when the one reporter asked the same question twice (who was that?), he just gave him the gears.
