McDavid, Marner & Mathews have all put up points in the playoffs.
Johnny and Tkachuk, not so much. I think that's the most concerning part for Flames fans.
If we won game one 4-1, then lost game 2 by a slim margin, I would be feeling a lot better right now. But I can't shake the Ghosts of Playoffs Past with the Flames only scoring 1 PP goal in 2 games. Until that changes, I am pretty nervous both for our playoff chances and signing Johnny & Matty long term.

Went to both games 1 & 2. Respect to everyone looking at the positives, series is far from over, however its hard for me to not think of this core groups history in the playoffs and be worried. Hopefully the road can do some good for the group.
Love Sutter, but why is he rolling 4 lines in the 3rd period of a playoff game down 1? Seeing the 4th line out there with 3:30 left had me losing my mind. Shorten the bench.

If Johnny and Tkachuk go through these playoffs without producing any offense, the team may be glad not to have signed them both to long contracts.

Scoring Winger
|
Not scoring last night was frustrating and the fact it happened against such a boring team in Dallas who didn't give the Flames much to worry about all night at 5v5 made it tough to watch.
But just for some added perspective, Markstrom has been great through both games, he's let in one goal and the series is tied 1-1. Ottinger is getting all the praise (especially from Kelly Hrudey - his biggest fan) but any goalie can get hot for a few games especially with low expectations. Put a couple past him when he's playing at home and make life difficult, stand in front of him, bump him, do whatever it takes to get in his head a little bit and he'll crack.
Two game road trip to Dallas is exactly what this flames team needs right now, Daryl will be calling people out and I'd expect a bunch of adjustments to deal with the trap. Calgary will score first next game and CP can collectively exhale. 4-1 Series win is still on the table for Calgary.

I said this to my wife last night but my opinion was slighty different because IMO the 4th line has been the best line. But I said to her they can keep grinding it out and play well they just don't have the talent to put one in. But hard for Sutter to not play them when they are the best line
I was really hoping the Dube, Coleman line would get some chances. Fastest line we have but they haven't been great. Better than the Backlund line though. Mangiapane also has been a non factor. If we lose this series, we probably have a new GM and could see all our tough to sign guys either take a hit on their contracts and move to a new team

But is Oettinger really that hot? Sure his save percent says he is amazing but I'm not sure if he made very many big saves. There was a whole lot of perimeter shots with 0 traffic.

Sutter.
It's the only thing that brings me peace. I believe this team will be ready for Game 3.

For what it's worth, I recall at least one other time last night when a D-man threw it up the boards and a Stars player was right there waiting for it. I want to say Zadorov but it might have been someone else, I can't remember. The fact is that it happens from time to time but doesn't always end up in the back of the net (especially if the other players are supporting and/or are whether they're supposed to be). Credit the Stars top line for quickly capitalizing on the turnover and the Flames not being in position to recover.

Sutter is the smartest coach this team has had since Hartley, or maybe since Sutter was last coach. Whatever this group is capable of achieving, he's likely the best guy to get it out of them.

Yep, all those western teams owned the east...east had 8 good teams and 8 point donors so can't just go by point totals

Exactly. A lot of star players are scoring against really good teams.
Look at the wild, does anyone think it's easy to get to the high danger sports against the blues?? They absolutely punish ppl and Minny has been able to get to the middle and score.

Those guys also aren't playing Dallas who is 100% focused on defence. Flames top players haven't scored but they also haven't been scored on. They do need more but this series won't have huge point totals for anyone. Two real goals in the series.

I think people need to realize it's no longer the 90s when 16 of 21 made the playoffs.
Dallas is a 98 point team not a bottom feeder
Flames are the better team but it's close... almost every series is 1-1

Yep, not a good play by Hanifin. He didn’t want to get hit, so he rushed the play, made the wrong decision and it cost his team. Even Sutter in the presser said he needed to have more composure on that play.
But to be fair, this play happened several times this game as I had alluded to in the second intermission. Rick Bowness made a great adjustment flooding his forecheck to one side and taking away the boards to cut off the Flames’ outlet.
With that said, the Flames’ defensemen also took the bait, like a quarterback throwing it into double/triple coverage. The best play was the reverse D to D and the coaching staff will need to adjust.
It’s all about adjustments in the playoffs and I give Rick Bowness credit for seeing a Flames weakness and bouncing on it. It lead to the goal and a couple of their grade A chances. Now Darryl will have to adjust and take that away from the Stars.

Johnny basically scored half his playoff points in 2015.
Has not shown much at all since then. This is concerning to me and many others. I'm not just talking point production either. I need to see some big improvement next game (and a win) before I step back from the ledge. I've seen this movie too many times.
