It always feels weird second guessing Sutter, but I have not liked Mangiapane with Toffoli for some time now. After 1 goal in two games, I think it's time to mix things up, and I would like to see:
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Dube - Jarnkrok - Toffoli
Or, if you really want to get adventurous:
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Dube
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Coleman - Jarnkrok - Toffoli
Lucic - Carpenter - Lewis

Hopefully Rasmus was communicating with him and telling him he had the easy reverse. If Rasmus wasn't communicating, then it's a defensive unit failure, and if he was, it was a Hanifin individual failure.
Hanifin played well in game 1, especially after Rasmus got tossed, but he's had a knack for wilting when the spotlight shines bright. He makes some truly baffling decisions when he has so too much time, and his bad choices can snowball, like they did for a stretch last night. His play against Colorado in 2019 still gives me flashbacks. Hopefully he can pick it up the rest of the series/playoffs.

Yup I’m weak and in panic mode. Not so much because of past playoff failures but because my expectations were sky high. I didn’t want to get into a shootout with NSH and thought we would match up much better against DAL.
The worry is that DAL has been no threat at all offensively and should get better as the series goes on, while there is little reason to think our top six is suddenly going to break through 5 on 5. All the bottom six is doing is eating time to allow the top two lines to catch their breath. They are not generating anything.
Clearly I was wrong about DAL as a favourable round 1 opponent.

Giving up 1 non empty net goal in game 2 and 0 goals in game 1 isn’t the problem in my mind. Defence and goaltending has been great.
They have to figure out how to get better zone entries and to the middle of the ice in Dallas’ end.
Dallas has done a great job of scouting the Flames and taking away their offensive tendencies. Time to adjust.

So far Toffoli and Jarnkrok look like complete wastes of draft picks. July is going to be really depressing as a Flames fan if they don't make any noise in the playoffs

Well unless they planned on going to 7 games Flames were going to have to win at least one in Dallas so I guess there’s that.

6 of 8 series are tied at 1-1. There’s a lot of parity in the league now.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much at this point. Dallas is a good team. The Flames weren’t going to sweep them. The Flames are also a good road team. We have to win one in Dallas now.
They’ll be fine. They have carried the majority of the play so far. They just have to figure out how to get to the slot more.

Hoping for an offensive explosion of 2 goals next game. Oettinger gives up a lot of rebounds, Flames should be able to take advantage

I’m more concerned about the state of the fan base than the state of the team after reading this thread.
Some of you could use a few months on Sutter’s farm to build some character.

Dallas has ONE goal in two games (ignoring the empty netter). And not only do they not deserve more, but the only reason they even have one is because of a terrible decision and a fortuitous tip. Dallas is completely unable to generate any kind of offense whatsoever, including on their PP.
Their top line each have 2 shots on net. In 2 games.
Defensively, the Flames have been one moment short of perfection.

It's the playoffs. Both teams are doing whatever they can to win. W's don't come easy. That's why the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best in sports. Tomorrow is another game, and I expect the Flames will be ready.
Some of you need to grow a pair. And grow up.

I went and cheered my face off, but that was some LOW EVENT hockey.
I rebuked people trying to do the wave in the 3rd while we were losing.
I didn't have the balls to confront people not wearing red, so I made a thread instead
The Gold chains are so obnoxious they have crossed into cool territory. I want one now.

These kinds of mistakes happen multiple times a night to every team. There's always a few pucks that should have gotten out of the zone that didn't.
The glaring issue is that the Flames have 1 F-ing goal in 2 games. They should have been able to win last night, but were shut out.
The stars are playing our first line tight, and the first line also doesn't seem to be doing themselves any favors. Lindholm is firing pucks, he would have typically buried in the regular season, directly into the goalies pads. Gaudreau is constantly attempting passes right across the Dallas defenders. The depth, which is supposed to be full of jam (Coleman, Toffoli, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube, etc..) isn't jamming. Everyone is being held to the outside.
....../rant....I'm pretty frustrated with this.

This is on Hanifin for not scoping the option 100%.
But if I was to assign 20% or so of the blame I'd look at the top of that picture. Why is Lucic so far up the ice? I know he's not that fleet of foot, but that's way too far out.
Hanifin has to eye that up, and he didn't. But the left wing would normally be back as deep as Lewis.

I agreed, he was one of the more involved forwards last night. I just find it’s crazy he can’t make a good shot anymore

Agreed for sure, neither team has generated any type of offense
However I would think, this is the style the Stars would love to play
Keep it close, low scoring and hope for bounces

You are aware calgary has only scored one goal? Getting on the road is probably our best medicine and Sutter will regroup. We’re better then we have showed

I thought Hailey Salvian had an excellent writeup in the Athletic after Game 2 (paywall): https://theathletic.com/3297285/2022...eds-to-change/
Basically:
- Dallas plays low event hockey, this is their style
- Flames were sloppy yesterday but have generated more overall (stats show a clear advantage in attempts, shots and chances)
- Lots of missed shots for the Flames, and blocked shots by the Stars
- Oettinger has been solid but hasn't really been tested with difficult saves
- Our top-line out-chanced Dallas 15-5 at five-on-five, best of any line in the game
- Flames middle six needs to chip in

Let me preface this by saying I am not, in any way, blaming the refs for the game last night but I would like to ask the following question:
Does anyone else think it is interesting that, when the Flames are down, instead of game management, the refs put their whistles away?
I find this to be a regular occurrence.

No.
Probably expecting a little bit more than 0.5 goals per game and 0 even strength goals though.
