I will reserve judgement on which Dune I like better until I have seen all of the current one, so far it's 50/50, I really liked the set designs and steampunk feel of Lynch's but I never have like Kyle MacLachlan that much as an actor, mind you I dont much like the new kid either

Googled. Conservative author eh. Hence the 'I'm not even going to watch the video before I pass judgement on it'. Nice.
As for cultural topics, which this is, I don't see the issue with getting takes from every end of the spectrum. It was one of the more thought provoking ones I thought.
I'd be genuinely curious to see you take a crack at a top 25 sci-fi movies, as I've enjoyed many of the ones you speak highly of. If top 25 is too daunting, maybe a top 15?
As a massive sci-fi fan I'll try my top 15
Not for everyone but here goes
1) Alien
2) Star Wars- empire strikes back
3) Aliens
4) The Thing
5) Jurassic Park
6) Star Trek- wrath of khan
7) Star Wars- new hope
8) The Matrix
9) Terminator2
10) Terminator
11) Sunshine
12) War of the Worlds
13) Predator
14) Interstellar
15) The Arrival

Sliver if you didn't like BR2049 I honestly just feel bad for you for missing out in that enjoyment. I think it's one of the best Sci fi movies ever made. I think Arrival might be THE best one ever made.
As good as those are they may not even be his best, sicario is incredible

This is kind of like calling Alex Jones a "conservative pundit"... And no, I'm not going to spend any of my life watching a ####ing Candace Owens video.

Your Alien moves are backwards.
Also, how is the Fifth Element not on your list.

The Tom Cruise version was actually decent. There have been two recent TV adaptions that I've been meaning to check out; one is an ongoing series and one a three part mini series the BBC did.
Regardless the perfect War of the Worlds adaption will use Jeff Wayne's music.

Any Sci-Fi top list has to include Moon and Ex-Machina
This is right, as well as Children of Men, Brazil, Blade Runner, A Clockwork Orange... a few other staples.
The problem with people making "best of" lists in the genre is all the fanboyism. If you're judging the movies objectively on their merits, no Star Wars or Star Trek movies belong anywhere near a top 10. Old trek is legitimate sci fi stuff, but the movies aren't great movies. In spite of being all about shooting lasers in space, Star Wars isn't strong sci fi, nor are any of them particularly great movies despite some of them being pretty entertaining.
I honestly get the feeling that a lot of people who claim to be "sci fi fans" have never heard of Robert Heinlein. I'm immediately reminded of someone saying in the Dune thread that they didn't know it was a book.

See, there, for example, I don't understand how anyone could possibly justify Wrath of Khan as being a better example of movie making than Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or Terminator being a better movie than Moon. Let's be serious.
It's like comparing schlocky 50s westerns to Unforgiven.

I can see it, if I take into account just the pure enjoyment of a movie no matter the quality of the movie making, acting or script.
Then add in a dash of nostalgia.
That's why I'd have Terminator higher on my list than probably most people would.

Right, but to do that is to effectively concede that you don't take science fiction seriously as a movie genre. It's just a fun time out at the theatre that you can walk out of thinking about how cool the giant robots and laser sword fights were. That's not how movie quality is generally looked at. Nothing wrong with good entertainment, but this is also an art medium, and science fiction is a totally valid way to express that artistic value.
