If the Flames are the bridesmaids that means the Oilers are the flower girls.

You have to draft them. You have to get them the same way Edmonton got McDavid, Buffalo got Eichel, Pittsburgh got Crosby/Malkin, Boston got Thornton, and so on. Extremely difficult to do though if you are not drafting in the top 3 ever. For people who never want to sell and bottom out, that is the price.

If people are just waiting until one is available through trade so we can overpay and sell the farm to get him, you'll be waiting forever.

It's still not too late to tank for Shane Wright, and then Connor Bedard. It really isn't.

I don’t agree with the tank method. Not only are there too many variables but I would bet good money we would end up with the leafs luck and get the ‘Marner’ while the ‘McDavid’ falls into the lap of another team.

Hell, he had 18 in the short last season. He’s significantly underrated.

Yeah it is.

You're not out tanking Chicago or Arizona this year. Montreal, Seattle, and Ottawa aren't good either.

But even if you do tank and finish 3rd worst overall - that means you have 10.9% odds of Wright.

Honestly tanking for Wright or Bedard isn't a realistic option, and at best you're looking at between an 8-10% chance of getting the player anyways.

This is a good point.

Outside of Hanifin, Andersson, or Lindholm we dont have any younger players locked into a value contract for 3+ years. That term has value for a Sabres team struggling to keep players. (Guess you could include Dube too - but he hasn't broken out yet).

He probably has to clear that up not for the Flames but because a lot of Sabres fans are thinking today that the Weekes rumoured return is a lot better than what they ended up getting.

If you want to cheer for a tanking team, Arizona could probably use the fans.

I dunno, maybe just me, but I'm enjoying winning.

That's why I think it's not a stretch that be ends up the best player in the deal for the Sabres.

We'll see, but Jack Eichel hasn't shown the ability to elevate a squad, let's see what a damaged Eichel does. I believe some are sleeping on what the Flames have in waiting, and the present team, now being properly utilized, is a threat. I understand Eichel could make a difference, but it was going to cost plenty to see that hand. Maybe your right, maybe not, but I personally see a lot in the present team, and having been to a number of Stockton games, see more than Kyllington, Anderson and Mangiapane being NHL types. I understand disappointment, as Eichel represents near term hope, I'm just glad management doesn't bend to similar emotions. Vegas is transforming a competitive machine into the island of misfit toys.

I cheer for the Flames. Win or lose. Mediocrity or whatever exists outside mediocrity which I'm not quite familiar with.

So who’s going to be their #1C to lead them into a playoff position?
Also, if you’re Buffalo, and looking at the current situation of both teams, the Vegas pick has a higher potential to be the higher pick. Vegas is stumbling out the gate, Buffalo got one of their good players, and Vegas will have to clear space to fit Eichel into the cap structure.

Also, since Vegas has the room, due to LTIR, Buffalo doesn’t have to take on any cap dump! Buffalo must have weighed the packages, and determined flexibility trumps whatever sweeteners Calgary might have been offering…

Rumors or not id be pretty annoyed by that return as a Sabres fan.

Krebs is good but not some sure thing prospect. He's equal to Zary IMO

Tuch is a nice piece.

2022 1st is good but having top 10 protection really reduces its value.

I wouldn't like that return as a Sabres fan.

The Flames aren't exactly the team to cheer for for people who enjoy winning either. I think everyone's here posting because we cheer for the Flames.

There's a difference between cheering for a team win or lose, and cheering for a team to lose.

One is typical of an actual fan of the team, the other really isn't.

Cheering for a team to fulfil the conditions required to get better is not "cheering for the team to lose". It's cheering for the team to win in the long run.

Feels like Buffalo really tunnel visioned on Krebs. Perhaps Tuch to a lesser extent but definitely on Peyton Krebs.

Why couldn't have they tunnel visioned on Coronato? Bah humbug. He's nicknamed 'The Bison' for frig's sake.
