I think he means nothing was ever close with the Flames.

Also I have no idea why they accepted a protected 1st round pick when they are giving up by far the best player in the deal. The more I think about it, the more I think this trade is going to be a massive fail for the Sabres.

It's amazing how much more Colorado got for Matt Duchene than Buffalo got for Eichel. Different circumstances, for sure. Shows how much his value was hurt by the fact he was injured and about to have experimental surgery.
My guess is the no protected top 10 was the price the Sabres had to pay for no conditional elements to the trade (based on Eichel playing X number of games, achieving X number of points, etc.).

Treliving has an absolute sickness imo. He absolutely believes he is the smartest GM. And loves the players he selects and grooms. Loves them wayyyyy too much.

I think we can all agree on the following:
(1) Eichel is, and always will be, damaged goods.
(2) Eichel is hard to get along with.
(3) Eichel was not worth the assets it would have taken to get him.
(4) Vegas will regret paying what they did for Eichel.
(5) This is one situation where we are all gloriously happy to have not made a deal to get Eichel.
(6) Yada, Yada, Yada.

After the Vegas doctors are done with Eichel, i can't wait to see his new neck, altered jawline and new set of tits.

Im guessing once the medicals were opened up for teams to evaluate, the price dropped for all of them.
There is still a massive risk with acquiring this guy that many seem to completely ignore.
He may literally never ever be the same player.

The situations are not comparable. You know that.

of course I know that but I wanted to be super angry about something too.
wanted Eichel but obviously the Sabres didn't want what we were selling so now we can move on and enjoy the games.

Good point but if Eichel returns to form it's hard to imagine this trade ever looks good in retrospect for the Sabres and I don't think Vegas will bottom out enough to be picking top 5 this season. I guess they must think Krebs has franchise player potential.

Adams is colossally stupid if he took that versus the leaked Calgary offer.
BT has no cure for stupidity. Can’t fault him.

By the time he has surgery and is ready to go, it will have been roughly a year without playing hockey (not to mention the Covid shortened season). You have to wonder how much all that time off would hurt any professional athlete, without considering the surgery itself.

Congratulations to Jack Eichel, he can now have his surgery and improve his quality of life. I hope he can return to his former self as a player.
#### you Vegas & Buffalo.

They must love krebs. I watched him play the other night witb these trade rumors bubbling and I thought he looked bad at nhl level/not ready. Granted he is only 20/21 this season but Buffalo really putting a huge bet on him turning out. A protected 1st and an oft injured 25/26 year old middle six winger are not super valuable assets in the context imo.

I don't believe the first part, but I definitely agree with the bolded. He has a tough time letting go of players he personally likes. He even goes out and gets them if he likes them a lot. That works out sometimes, but other times it sets the franchise back years.
To me, he needs another voice to even out his perspective. I worry that he only got that now with Sutter.

That is one thing for certain we have no knowledge of. Although the price paid by Vegas suggests the risk was material.
And without some certainty of that info, how can we properly access what Treliving should have done?
We really have no idea what is going on in the minds of Tkachuk and Johnny when it comes to signing long term extensions. Presumably Treliving has a better idea of those facts than anyone on the board.

For some reason I felt this was never going to happen for us. Vegas took a fairly large gamble on a pretty serious back injury, kind of glad we aren't rolling the dice.
