Apparently we can't ever have nice things, because we're Calgary and everyone says "#### you Calgary, ya schmucks"

Has there ever been so much hype involving a player who currently has a broken neck?

It doesn't really matter what WE think is better value, it's what Adams thinks. By all accounts, he wanted a guy who wanted to be there, and is locked in for the foreseeable future. Having a player shorterm does nothing for them if they are really trying to rebuild. So Tuch > Tkatchuk. And Krebs>> Pelletier in terms of perceived value. I'm sorry Flames fans are in deniable about this, but it is what it is.

I wonder how quickly do we see Tkachuk rumors now start since the name is potentially out there.

Before we seriously can evaluate this, we need to let it play out. Eichel needs to have the surgery and see if he can come back from this and is truly elite.
Yes we may have missed out on an opportunity but we also may have dodged a huge bullet

He’s a franchise player. Broken or not, he is still better than almost all of our squad, if not all.

I see them trending towards San Jose Sharks. Always a playoff bridesmaid, never the bride. At some point, all these long term contracts are going to come back to bite them in the ass.
|
I disagree. All of their contracts are pretty reasonable.
Pacioretty only has a year left, and that'll really open things up.
The Stone and Pietrangelo contracts could be iffy at the very end, but that's a long ways off.
Karlsson, Theodore, and Lehner have great contracts.
Smith and Dadonov don't have much term left. Everyone else on the team has good contracts.
They'll be fine.
The real problem is the lack of prospects. But they've been so good with free agency that this effect is minimized.

For good reason. Eichel is a stud and deserved the hype. Complete missed opportunity and while I get what posters are saying who are trying to speak to why the trade didn’t happen at the end of the day it’s a missed opportunity again for the Flames to go all in. No conviction, no balls. Treliving better Hope Sutter keeps getting better than the some of their parts type play from this group, there’s no doubt this puts him squarely in the hot seat. The next rumour that surrounds this team will be analyzed and criticized more than ever and for good reason. 8+ years is eons in the hockey world and BT has little to show for his work in terms of team successes.

Umm have you seen our division? We would at the very least play them in the 2nd round.
But holy crap are you Eichel lovers going to make it through the day without stroking out??!! lol

Not getting this done considering the final deal wasn't really all that much of a give (for Eichel it really isn't), reeks of job security being the primary concern.

We didn't have what he wanted, so accept it and move on. It takes two parties to consummate a deal, and Vegas had what Adams wanted. You can't just stack up pieces if the individual you are working with is interesting in only one thing. If someone is looking for that mint '67 Mustang, your Porsche and Ferrari are not going to be of interest to them. It's just the way it is.

But if you have anyone to blame on this blame Sutter! The Sabres prob realized that a Flames 1st rounder is going to be 8-12 spots lower than the Knights 1st rounder next year....

Interesting. No health or performance conditions. So Vegas is taking 100% of the risk on his recovery.
If Capfriendly is right, if everyone else in Vegas returns from IR, the Golden Knights need to clear $10,369,239 of cap (not pro-rated) before they can activate Eichel. I certainly hope no other team is willing to help them out with this.

I would assume that his chances of signing just decreased. I think we all hoped that the thought of playing with Eichel might convince him to stay. In fact, that was what was holding up his deal.
