Pros
1. Mangi is a beast
2. Hanifin is our best Dman.
3. Team had bite tonight.
Cons
1. Our 'best' players still arent good enough
2. Markstrom was meh
3. Zadorov played way too much.
4. Lucic is welcome to show up anytime against the oilers. He might have been the softest player tonight. No surprise though.
Hon. mentions to Valimaki and Gudbranson who held their own.

I thought Monahan was great up to the Kassian hit. Then he disappeared. Bet he’s hurt again.

What amazing saves did Smith make?
Flames opposition has the Flames shooting on them...how often do the Flames have more snipers than the opposition

Get Coleman out there with Backlund and you probably have the basis for a damn good 3rd line, particularly when Pitlick returns.
And dear god we need a way that pushes Ritchie out of the lineup. He's not an NHL player.
|
With Coleman, Pitlick, and Ritchardson in, that likely means Gawdin and Ritchie out
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Coleman
Dube - Backlund - Pitlick
Lucic - Ritchardson - Lewis
looks a whole heck of a lot deeper than what we saw tonight

Can't say how many shifts, but we went with 7D, 11F, and Kylington only got 3:27 worth of ice time. I think that's BS.

More to do with the post-game show, but I like Hyman, always have. Such a shame he's a filthy Oiler now.

Top 15? Maybe. He is an average starter IMO, which isn't the worst thing.
The 4th place in Vezina voting in 2019-20 was an outlier. Of 29 voters, one voted him second and 4 voted him 3rd. So can't really say he was clearly the 4th best goalie but he had a great season. Most starters in the league older than say 28 have probably had a similar season.
With his contract, we just need him to stay healthy and dependable.

Losing is one thing. To the Oilers another. But spotting our lord and saviour a ####ing hatty every season is so gross.

Good point. Gaudreau fluffed the 2 on 1 but he did make a big save or two on Tkachuk when he was in alone during the 2nd.

Didn't see the whole game, but we played good enough to win. The difference, as usual, is McDavid. I was surprised by what I saw from Gudbranson-I thought he looked good, and he was the only plus player on our team. I thought Zadorov was ok, but he fought the puck at times. All in all, if we play the play the way we did tonight, and dominate on 5 vs 5, we can win some games.

And have something cooking to take over. Wolf is taking another step and Vladar could be good.

We played well enough to win tonight.
Congrats to the Oilers for getting the bounces, and taking advantage of them.

I've seen enough of the Flames running up the shot metrics and lose to not get impressed by this. The last Flames team that was poor analytically was Hartley.
The Flames are great at doing the things that make the models and metrics print high percentages. bad at converting those to wins. nothing new there. been the story since Gulutzan.

I liked the effort tonight, like many have said lots of flukey stuff going oils way.
was again reminded that Johnny becomes a liability when games get tougher. He cannot play on the boards and this drags his line down. I’m wary of throwing large amounts of money at a player with such a deficiency in his game.
Zadorov was bad. Directly responsible for the frankenberry goal with that lazy stick swipe instead of skating with his man.
Goodbranson?
Wtf was that? I’ll take him on a third pairing if he plays like this every game.
Coleman, Pitlick, and Richardson will make the FW group better for sure.
Even though Gawain was decent tonight, he was in over his head a bit.
Didn’t like that we didn’t rough up the fake tough guys in Nurse and Kassian.
These guys picking on Monahan? Really?
With all the beef in the line up tonight I would have thought the physical response would be stronger.
On to the next game.
Finally playing some team outside of Canada.

Not as much about McDavid as other top players being better than ours most nights.

CF%: 86.96%
FF%: 85.71%
SF%: 86.67%
SCF%: 100.00%
HDCF%: 100.00%%
