I agree with you on Gudbranson, I thought Zadorov was as ok, not great but not bad. Though you can see on Edmonton’s 4th goal where keeping himself in the lane would have helped. I believe this is in part of what flames management was talking about playing a quieter game.

Not many of either. He was pretty much an after thought after about halfway through.

No I knew that. I just was trying to figure out if it was because they weren't happy with how he was playing D or if it was a failed experiment of him getting forward minutes.
Or if when he was way up ice if he was even where he was supposed to be.
Basically I had no idea what was going on with him.

The point is, if we play like that every night, we will win a lot more games than we lose. In hockey, the better team doesn’t win every night, but they win more than they lose.

We played well enough to win tonight.

Congrats to the Oilers for getting the bounces, and taking advantage of them.

Hopefully Coleman can provide a bit more spark up front.

The slotting was all wrong with him not in the lineup. You can't have Lewis on your 3rd line.
Get Coleman out there with Backlund and you probably have the basis for a damn good 3rd line, particularly when Pitlick returns.

And dear god we need a way that pushes Ritchie out of the lineup. He's not an NHL player.

Yeah I don't really know obviously. The 6 D played OK IMO, so my guess is Sutter didn't want to break them up. And I suspect playing him a shift or two at F was more about giving other guys a break than really expecting much from Kylington.

The teams needs 4 lines. They need to find 12 NHL forwards to dress every night.

And then I'd like to see Kylington worked into the lineup on the back end and get some games taking a regular shift. There are some marginal NHLers back there who can easily be sat.

5 on 5 the Flames were really good against a high scoring team, why change the D?

I am happy with the flames effort. We all knew goals might be an issue.
Nurse and Kassian only getting tough with guys like tkachuk and Monahan. Gudbranson just needed to beat the s*** out of one of them once the score was out of reach.

After mcwhiner got his hat trick I could’ve really done with a 4th liner just running smith. Coleman can take his spot. Hey does anybody know if Mcdingus’ grandma was there? Hadn’t heard…

Its the secret Darryl Sutter plan to play old time hockey - he's going way back and will play Kylington at Rover.

I did, and no he didn’t. He was good, but not $6M good. I was expecting Vezina-caliber, and we seem to have nothing more than a top-15 goalie in the league. Let’s face it, he gets consistently outplayed by the opposing goaltender.

I’d keep Richie in over Backlund. Backlund’s just not interested to be out there anymore. Laziest player on the team by a country mile. Was the worst player on the ice tonight. Maybe Lucic I dunno.

I thought Lucic didn't look much like an NHLer tonight either but I think he still has more to give.

I agree on the slotting but you are going to play probably half your regular season games with one or two forwards missing. This team really needs some young players to contribute at the bottom end of the roster. Gawdin looked OK in his 3 shifts or whatever.

Oilers 5 Flames 2

- McDavid with a hatty
- Smith solid in net
- Flames with 47 shots on goal but not a lot of finish
- Bounces ... likely not on their side

Goes to show how utterly woeful our depth is I suppose.

Gah, tonight just pissed me off because the team performed exactly how you could predict they would. They worked hard, but they don't have the top end talent to get the job done, and they don't have the depth to roll lines the way a team with this talent level would require to be successful.

Sometimes when you throw a punch you duck your head to lean into it - his hand hit that little weasel’s face first.
