My point is Tkachuk won’t sign in Calgary simply because we will offer him the most money. I think he has desires to play in the States and won’t go where the most money is but will go to where he wants to live and where he thinks there is a chance to win.
Flames fans should hope he wants to go to who pays him the most. He is working to get maximum flexibility. Knowing what we know about the Tkachuk’s Matthew is highly likely to take his QO so he can be a UFA at 25 and pick any team he wants.

Maybe. We'll see.
If he turns down more money here, and goes somewhere else, then you were right.
I expect he'll take the most money.
And I won't be the least nit surprised if he signs here, without going to market.

I really hope you are the one who is right because I would much rather see Tkachuk sign here stress free than trade him or lose him for nothing

Maybe Brad did the best he could considering who he was dealing with? Would everyone have thought it was better he held out for a significant part of the season when we were coming off a first place season?
Not all things are equal and we can’t always cherry pick good deals from other teams.

Matthew’s contact was short term, made him the highest paid player on the team, and made him a potential UFA by 25. It was a lose lose lose for the Flames.
Those who rip Treliving for this contract are justified. Matthew didn’t have much leverage.
And I haven’t even mentioned the $9 mill QO requirement.
And now in hindsight, there is 3 years of flat cap and Matthew’s production has decreased in two consecutive years.
However, since it’s already a contact year, Matthew will likely perform.
Ottawa should be careful.

I think you have to do a little more homework on the Tkachuks. This is Matthew's own words;
Quote:
"I'm in the mix. I'm always there," Matthew told Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman in an interview for 31 Thoughts: The Podcast. "It's a family business. Nobody wants to deal with the Tkachuks in this. But we do it by committee.
"Brady might be...he's doing great," Matthew teased, before giving his opinion on the progress of negotiations between Brady and the Senators.
"He might be pulling a classic Tkachuk right now. Dad held out, Matthew held out, and Brady looks like he's on his way right now. So hopefully it can get figured out here. But it's just a lot of fake stuff out there regarding this. They're not too close. So hopefully it gets figured out, but who knows? My dad and I are definitely involved. Brady needs us to help him out with that stuff. He wasn't as cutthroat as we were during it, but he's starting to become more of a Tkachuk the later this goes."

So at this point are the Flames able to trade for Jack without sending out any salary? Can they trade for him while he's on the LTIR and just keep him there until after he has surgery and rehabs?
Likely be months now before he's ready to play, so you don't want to gut your roster while trying to compete. Maybe he can even pull a "Kucherov" and come back to a playoff roster when the cap isn't a factor anymore.

I think the Eichel ship has sailed. This was a tough enough trade for Calgary to make before we made moves and when Eichel would have been available close to the start of the season.
Maybe if he lasts until the deadline, but I don't see a likely move right now.
Hope I am wrong though.

The most Flames thing ever would be to be the front runners for Eichel only to have it not work because they signed Erik ####### Gudbranson for $2M

I get the feeling the Flames may have realized their best offer was not going to get it done (they simply don't have the prospects Buffalo likely wants) and moved on with doing Flames things like treating that cap space like money burning a hole in their pocket signing one of the worst defensemen in the NHL for $2 million. I expect the interested teams now have some elite young prospects and 1st round picks that will be lower than the Flames like the Ducks.

If buffalo likes the Flames offer there is no reason the Flames can't add a 4th rd pick and Gudbranson. The Sabers shouldn't care about having Gudbranson for 1 season

It is truly baffling it took the Sabres this long to release medical records. What a weird power move.

Tkachuk’s leverage was simply the team’s cap situation (and of course sitting out). Treliving had really very little choice. He couldn’t force a long term contract, and at the time he couldn’t afford the price it would have taken. So, like with Petterson in Vancouver, the team had to settle for short term and a nasty structure.
What would you have signed him for? And how would it have fit in the cap?

Eichel is going to be out for almost the entire season. The Sabres have killed his value by not providing teams with this information months ago.
What a stupid, stupid delay.

It was? when? where?
as far as I know, and Friedman has said so multiple time recently, that the Sabres have not shared Eichel's medical records with other teams. If the Sabres are now doing so, this could pave the way for a trade prior to the reg. season, which would make sense. I doubt very much the Sabres see paying Eichel to sit as an appealing option. On the other hand suspending him and not paying him seems wrong on many levels. I suspect the league, and fans, would turn on them quickly.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Byfield got hurt the other night. Unsure to what extent but if he's out a bit and Eichel is out for what will probably be months, why not!
