It's a wasp trap for accounts you can easily ignore. They wander in thinking there's a big fight about freedom that must be had and get stuck wallowing in their sticky idiocy.

News this morning that Vancouver is also strongly considering such a policy. It seems the Jets may have just been leading the charge on this.

I'm for it this year at least. I have a feeling that COVID is a permanent threat now though. It might not reach pervious levels, but like the flu, I think there are always going to be variants and yearly vaccinations available. It believe it it will just be part of common diseases now.
Would the vaccination passport stop at being double vaccinated as of 2021, or will it have to be updated every time a new booster is required?

This is indeed a slippery slope. Next there will be some mandate that without a shirt or shoes I will be denied service, or that these private companies reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. We’re basically in 1984 if 1984 was also Nazi Communists.

I think it's helpful to look at it the opposite way. Honestly, we're running forward at an incredible rate and sure, every 100m or so we get picked up and put back 20-30m, but we're still moving forward overall.
I agree though, it's frustrating watching stupid people full of unearned confidence do their very best to keep society from moving forward and even attempt to move us backward. I know we're not supposed to call them "stupid" because that's "mean" but there's little other way to describe people who, after nearly 2 years of this, still have zero scientific literacy and just repeat whatever political quackery they've been sold because it fits the conspiracy theory they find most compelling.
You've got laymen here arguing law with actual lawyers, quoting "scientists" who refer to the vaccines as fake and "rape," people who think deaths were faked to instill fear, people who still believe vaccine myths that have been refuted hundreds if not thousands of times over the past year, people who have called previous restrictions crimes against humanity. Honestly, how do you even begin to overcome that level of complete idiocy when those people have a level of confidence in their idiocy that makes any intelligent breakthrough next to impossible? Not to mention these are some of the same posters who all fall in a political line, spouting off racist, transphobic, hateful garbage in other, previous threads, and have the nerve in this one to act persecuted like jews in nazi Germany. It's wild, but expected. This is political for these people, not scientific. How do you overcome politics with science?

I guess the “freedom” lovers haven’t ever been to a McDonalds.
You know… no shirt, no shoes, no service?
Private businesses can deny entry to any non-protected group (race, disability, sex, etc).
That’s how we’ll get closer to herd immunity. By finding people who love Jets hockey (or bars, or movies, or the symphony) more than their Facebook feeds.
Stop being a chicken and go get vaxxed.

There are people who can't get vaccines because of health conditions. They are 100% being discriminated against.
Vaccinated people can still get infected, and if the symptoms aren't as bad, then great. But if someone shows up to the game with a negative test and somehow infects an vaccinated person, they should be fine. Isn't that the purpose of the vaccine?

Yeah I had a glorious 2 week period where I felt less worried.
I acknowledge I also have medical anxiety overall and that plays into this too.

So true and well said. For example, check out what happened at a Kelowna town hall discussion with Dr Bonnie Henry:
https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelown...D-19-town-hall
“ Another man started his question by accusing Dr. Henry of being a "strategically placed agent of the United Nation and the Rockefeller Foundation working for Bill Gates and Big Pharma."
The health minister was quick to jump in and defend the chief medical officer.”
Incredible.

This is such an overblown point. There are people who cannot get vaccines. Yes. The amount of people however is a very small group in reality. There should be something in place for them, nobody disagrees. This group does not comprise the 20-30% of people who remain unvaccinated, nor anywhere close to that number.

My anxiety is less about my own personal safety, and much more that 6 months ago when we were starting vaccinations there seemed a light at the end of the tunnel of this nightmare. With variants it is now apparent that getting to anything less than virtually universal vaccination is going to keep us locked in this quagmire of not being able to actually move on with our lives. That is one of the biggest bummers ever.
The unvaccinated by choice, collectively, are responsible for this problem - hence people's anger and frustration. Governments who have yet to quite get there in introducing the types of policies necessary to get us to virtually universal vaccination (with reasonable accommodation, of course) are also responsible. But, people are fed up, are speaking out, and governments are starting to get their heads around it. It seems like the momentum is happening, which gives me hope.

That’s because even highly sensitive PCR tests can come back negative if you’re tested right after exposure, before the virus has built up to detectable levels, according to a study co-authored by Lauren Kucirka, MD, PhD, an epidemiologist and OB-GYN resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital. “Say you had lunch with a friend who was positive. Day one is the day after you had that lunch,” Kucirka says. “What we found was that if you are tested in the days immediately after exposure, the false negative rate is anywhere from 50% to 100%.” So just because you’ve tested negative doesn’t mean you’re not harboring the virus. The average onset of symptoms is five days post-exposure, and your peak infectiousness is two days before and one day after symptom onset, according to a study published in Nature Medicine.

Not quite. It isn't about the individual as much as it is about the community. I'm a cold, calculating monster. I actually don't care if random people I don't know get COVID, but I do care about the effect of community spread, the effect it has on the health care system, and how the chain reaction effects the ability for hospitals to function and how it effects the economy.
If a vaccinated person get infected and the disease is light, great for that person. But not great for everyone else that get infected as a result of that person acting as a vector in the community.

15,000 Canadians died from Covid in 2020.
The average age was higher than the average life expectancy.
8,000 - 10,000 Canadians die every year from the flu + pneumonia.
I don't understand why everyone is so passionate about mandating vaccines.

Well I guess everything is fine as long as we live with lockdowns periodically and the like. Those numbers do not reflect the sacrifice made to keep them as low as they are.

And no doubt the Canadiens will be implementing something as well, considering Quebec is rumored to be going the route of the Covid Passport to attend events.

"COVID only killed 150-200% of the usual total of canadians killed by Flu and Pneumonia combined, all while we shut down society and barely saw other humans for a full year. Why is everyone afraid of lettin' er rip?"
