Love Hyman, great player with a lot of energy and a guy that does a lot of things right on the ice. He's exactly what the oilers needed outside of goaltending and defence and he will make the Oilers better in certain aspects. Not sure how much he'll improve the fortunes of the team however. But overall just an ok signing for 3 or 4 years too long.

I would love to have Hyman on the Flames but at 3 or 4 years tops. You don't throw term at guys like this.

I admittedly have an unhealthy dislike of the Oilers......... but the actions they take are pure gold. Can't make this stuff up.....

Oilers fans are justifying every move by Holland as they believe they have a 5 year window remaining on McHobos contract. Here is the catch, they don’t have 5 years. If they miss the playoffs next year, maybe the year after too, Connor is gonna ask for a trade. Not let his contract run out.

Didn’t realize the off season is over and that there are no more moves to be made

Now go extend Barrie because f### defence!

It's going to be such a good year if Smith plays near the .900 he posted the previous few years.

Understandable, the Oilers' offseason can be a very confusing schedule with the draft lottery Stanley Cup level of hype events over the past decade.

Barrie would be a fool to sign there again, he did his one year tour of duty to drive his value and out in his time. He should be able to get a much better scenario than the Oilers for the same $$. He should be able to get a 4 yr/$5.5MM somewhere. If he goes to the Oilers assume that price will have to be $6MM.

Wait, you have faith that Holland and this management, after these last couple weeks and not having made a trade they didn't lose in a landslide in recent memory, will pull a rabbit out of a hat and somehow shore the team's back end in time for camp?

Do you import Edmonton water to where you are just to get in on the delusion?

I'd love to be that brutal at my job and still have the unwavering faith of every one there every time I made a new bad decision.

But bro, didn't you hear? Kassian is a hot commodity now.

Should be able to return a top pairing defensive d-man. I mean if injured Klefbom can return Tarasenko..

Staples posted that I believe, so pretty much just falls into the hype train and isn't real information. They can get away from Zack Kassian with that contract by attaching their 1st round pick, no other way. train wreck.......

I didn’t like the Keith trade at the beginning. I still wish they would have retained 1.5 mil on it. But I definitely see the benefits to it. He was playing 23+ minutes last year. His 2 partners had a combined games played of less then a full season. Their top 2 centres were gone. Put him in second pairing role with less minutes, and hopefully he’s a good bet to rebound. Plus he’s only signed for 2 years, which will allow Broberg and Samarukov to develop and hopefully take over that spot. If the Oilers went and signed a 2LD in free agency, we’d probably have to give him 4 years plus.

Loved the Nuge signing.

Losing Larsson was a blow, but he’s a UFA, and hearing some of the personal stuff he was dealing with I’m glad he’s getting a fresh start. Hard to fault either side at all.

And am fine with Hyman. I know posters here like to poopoo on it saying that it’s not going to make any difference, and that it doesn’t matter, but a top 6 LW was a hole last year. Hyman allows Mcdavid and Drai to be split up more and each have quality wingers. Or if they do play together you can run a second line of Hyman - Nuge - Yams

Cap hit is fine, term a bit long, but you always overpay for FA.

Smith as backup/1B fine by me. Don’t want to see Koski back though.

Holland sees that the window is 4-5 years. Looks like he’s going for it. He’s been second in the division both years since he came here, and a lot of the deals people were crapping on him for (Barrie, Smith) turned out great.

Is it the way I would have gone? Probably not. But he’s a HOF GM, and I’m just some schmuck in Saskatchewan.
Well then. Glass half full. My Oiler fan friends are in the exact opposite boat. They see Holland sewereing the team. These are different Oiler fans though. The don't get on the this is our year at the beginning of every season train. They see many wasted years of Mcrobot already with bad move after bad move. Especially chasing guys that don't need to be chased.

Ooohh.....that is hilarious.

"McDavid isnt winning because his team is no good!!"

Holland: "Hold my beer...."

Edmonton operates like a team that believes they are a destination players don't want to go to, with no leverage. And that's why they get taken to the cleaners by the Blackhawks and Hyman's camp. Other teams don't even pick up the phone because it's absurd to throw out those offers and term right from the start, like there is some kind of rush to get it locked down. It's simply not how negotiating works in business. Even Benning wouldn't touch Hyman (heh) at those numbers.

Luckily the oil will burn through their money quickly and then the GMs that understand negotiation will get to work on improving their teams while limiting the long term pain, unlike what the oil did here this week.

It sounds like the Leafs are still trying to keep Hyman.

Lol, so another Larsson situation potentially? That would be funny after they've already penciled him into their lineups.

Players are now smartly using the high spending Oil and their trigger happy media to help negotiate better deals with other teams?

Oh please don’t sewer this deal, give them any more chances they may actually get a trade/signing right. You lock a thousand monkeys with a thousand typewriters in a room eventually one of them will write Shakespeare.
