What doesn’t make sense is that if they are handing out 3 dead years for all their players why didn’t they do it for Larson. Makes no sense they didn’t add term to keep him with the 4 year window philosophy they are pursuing with these deals

Expect articles to begin around February about how he's an underperforming malcontent.

Said they are doing one buyout, have to believe that is Neal. They are going for it this year, it is hilarious to watch. I really like Hyman as a player, but doesn’t make sense for that contract and do they really think he moves the needle that much? He has played with Marner and Matthews and is a 50-55 pt guy. That isn’t improving significantly with Mavi… they got the same production with Nothing-Happens playing wing and seen in the latter half of the season he can’t drive his own line. The Oiler continue to be the embarrassment of the NHL and the worst team in North American professional sports by a large margin.

Honest question, how do you feel about the direction the Oilers have gone this week?

This. Instead of putting money towards their forward depth or their defense… they’ve put money towards their top line… which didn’t need it.
They could have gone after a player like Danault for this kind of money and term. A guy that could make their team deeper and could add a function to their team - a shutdown centre. Someone that could do something/add something to the team when McDavid/draisaitl are not on the ice.
Their team will still have that enormous drop off the second McDavid/Draisaitl are not on the ice because Hyman is going to be playing with one/both of them.

Bear too. He could get a mil or 2
Jp right now probably a mil or so.
If Koskinen is bought out to get all this done there is no contracts coming off the books to help with this
Nurse resigning this summer? I’d be finding that out now rather than later

All these moves are coming from Mavi throwing a tantrum, bet on it. No one in their right mind does the deals Holland is doing, even with drinking the water. But frankly they haven’t gotten better, it’s amusing.

I liked it better when it was McDrai, Nuge, and literally all AHL forwards around them. The Oilers adding an actual NHL player, and a top line forward, is bad news for Flames fans.

I think his dad pulls most of the strings and is the defacto GM of the Oilers.

The Oilers last season was a mirage. Unless Smith improves upon his unreal year (which was even better than his save percentage would suggest when you dig deeper into his stats) they are a bottom third team. Their defense is worse, their goaltending will assuredly be worse, and they chose to add to their top line.
I think their goal is to get McDavid as many points as possible to keep him happy and in town. Winning is secondary, and if you look at his career to date McDavid hasn't won squat at any serious level that wasn't a personal trophy.

The only question that remains after these shrewd moves by Holland and endless resources that will be pumped into the Oiler media puppets about how these moves put them over the top is……
Will we see a jersey toss? And when?

You sound like a closeted Oiler fan. We hear the same crap every offseason about how the Flames should be worried about all the great moves the Oilers are making and then, somehow, by the end of the next hockey season the Oilers are still the biggest laughing stock in the league!! Hyman will be the next David Clarkson.

I think it’s because Hyman’s agent are reviewing the contract for a fourth time since they can’t believe someone is giving him this deal……..

I am torn. I want them to only be able to sign for 7 years so the cap is 5.5M instead of 5.125. Although, using a pick in would be pretty good. At the end of the day it isn't like the Oilers are that successful with late round picks.
