He'll put up loads with McDavid and it'll appear as though it's a bargain. The Oilers media will make sure we don't hear the end of it. Then we'll point to how good McDavid made Kassian and Chiasson look.

Nah. He will be 2nd/3rd line.once they put Mcdink/Draisatl/Nugent Hopkins back together because they have fallen out of the race because Smiths groin is done and Bear is a top pairing defenceman. This book didn't even write itself this time. Holland is writing this one.

This should work out just as beautifully as Holik to the Rangers...

While it may still end up not happening, it's so weird how he media guys have their cheerleading articles ready to say the mood and opinion before these things happen. It just gives such a clear indicator that it's probably a go.

If they get this deal signed I imagine buy outs are coming for Neal and Koskinen
I'm not as happy about them getting Hyman as many here. I think he's a good player and will most definitely help them unfortunately.

Oilers will also lose an asset if they trade for Hyman’s rights for that 8th year. I’m a little excited to see what else they give up.

The only player who has really "put up loads with McDavid" is Draisaitl. McDavid is not an easy player to play with at all, which is why he cycles through wingers like changes of underwear.

I would guess that after this year McDavid us tbe one who moves on, leaving Holland holding the bag in the most undesirable hockey-ops job in the NHL.

Toronto is the only team that can sign Hyman to an eight-year contract. If that is what Edmonton wants then they aren't getting it for free.

Hah, who watches the GM in Edmonton? Oh right, the old boys club who are equal parts arrogant and clueless.
This is a master class in incompetent corporate governance where a manager can kill a franchise for nearly a decade just to save their job for a year or two.

It will help them short term, long term will be brutal if we're talking 8 years. Another destined buyout who will further handcuff the cap structure, keeping them filling out their rosters with scrubs.
But Oilers are 1000% on the short term bus here.
Just paying out to appease lord Connor for the time being, for all intents and purposes.

If you think Holland had any say in the Kassian resigning, nor probably the Keith trade, just as Chia got the decision making taken away from him before the rush Koskinen signing, I have a bridge to sell you.
Lowe doing his best to get the Oilers out there and in on big names, when everyone is watching, to ensure Connor doesn't follow through on threats that have likely been made clear behind the scenes.

Scarcity creates value.
In this case there are very few <30 year old 50 point forwards available that are just a cut below the star recognition that commands the money of a Landeskog.
He's solid gold to a team like Edmonton, with its collective stupidity, a little money to blow, and the need for something to launch their full hype arsenal about to take the sting out of the unanimous embarrassing fail that the Keith deal was.
But once again they're the only ones bidding in that ballpark, and they will successfully outbid themselves, setting up for inevitable long term pain and futility in order to..... not really help their depth past McDavid's line at all.
And hey, let's throw two years at Smith while we're at it.
As for the rush, I don't get it either. But we all make our best decisions by acting compulsively in a time crunch, so who am I to question their genius.

Agreeing to 8 years in Edmonton is just so absurd. Someone needs to look into this for some type of illegal coercion.
