(Markstrom still almost caught it)

Monahan looks much more relaxed now that he’s away from 13 - looked like an actual hockey player last night.

It’s not about this year, but the playoff March continues.

No dispute on the second Habs goal, beauty pass and great effort

The first goal, yes, he stopped a couple first, but it was almost like Markstrom was trying to find a Hab with every rebound

All in all, he didn’t let anything else in, which is nice. Pretty easy game otherwise.

As long as the Flames keep the dangerous looks below a half dozen they should be fine

LOL

You are trying way too hard here - he saved the first 3, all from point blank range. If the Habs got 3 rebounds, that's on the D, not on the goalie who was clearly under siege at that moment.

What matters in the long run is his old age, his high cap hit, his very long term, his injury history, and hic NCM.

Markstrom could've won a Vezina this year and I still would have been concerned about the last 3 years of the contract.
The fact that you are concerned, does not make it a problem

Don't bother. This guy's posting history shows pretty clearly that he has an axe to grind against Jacob Markstrom.

And all the NMC means is they can't move him without his approval. If things are going good in years 4-6 we have nothing to worry about. If things are going bad I don't think he would be against waiving it to go to a team with a better chance at winning a Cup. He just wants the final say in where he goes.

I agree the D should be battling for the rebounds, and he was under pressure, but rewatch it.

I don’t have to try. He is the one putting the rebounds where they are. His rebound placement has been, shall we say, generous all year.

If you asked him, he probably wouldn’t like it either

30+ starters who’ve played in SCFs since I’ve been old enough to pay attention.

2020, Khudobin - 33
2019, Rask - 31
2018, Fleury - 33
2017, Rinne - 34
2015, Crawford - 30
2014, Lundqvist - 31
2012, Brodeur - 39
2011, Thomas - 36
2011, Luongo - 31
2008, 2009, Osgood - 35, 36
2006, Roloson - 36
2004, Khabibulin - 31
2003, Brodeur - 30
2002, Irbe - 34
2002, Hasek - 37
2001, Roy - 35
2000, Belfour - 34
1999, Belfour - 33
1999, Hasek - 34

1997, Vernon - 33
1996, Roy - 30

Older goalies win you games because they know how to win you games.

That is quite incorrect, and not helpful in any way. I was quite impressed with him early in the year, thought he may never let a goal in again.

I am generally a goaltender apologist.

I posted and volunteered the opinion that I didn’t have an issue with the two goals the previous game. Including the Toffoli shot that was well placed. 14 inches, above the pad, inside the post. Goal scorer’s goal, Iggy scored many

Not helpful in any way.

Why do we want to move him?

He’s a good goalie on a decent contract. We haven’t had that since 34 retired, what are we trading him for that’s better?

A better goalie coach could fix rebound control issues.

Nobody but Darryl should remain employed by this team from the front office following the draft. Not one coach, scout, Conroy, all of them.

Go away.

Totally agreed. Kipper was known for catching as much as he could and putting everything else in the corner

As for the staffing - I’m not opposed to this!

I agree. The only reason I would consider moving him the last half of his contract is if the team is a bottom feeder who don't look like they will recover before his contract ends and Wolf looks like he's ready to take over.

All I'm saying is that some people freak out about NMCs more than they should. It's more difficult to move a player if you decide you want to but not impossible.

seriously though. I love the way Mangiapane plays the game and that play against Petry to set up Johnny was pure brilliance on his part.
Mangiapane is pretty good at chasing pucks despite his size. Of course, on that play I have no clue what Petry was thinking.

Seems like Sutter is still experimenting. Puts Monahan and Gaudreau back together with Mangiapane, puts Dube back with Tkachuk and Lindholm, puts Lucic with Ryan and Robertson, puts Ritchie with Backlund and Nordstrom. Not sure any of those seem ideal to me but who knows. I think Sutter's fast line changes means that the combos get pretty mixed up anyway.

I didn't pretend to speak for anyone else.

I love this team no less than those who are cheering for the short-term playoff fun.

I am just done with 5 games every spring and think it's ok to demand more. Getting frustrated with what's playing out, which is deja-vu for what we've seen the last 20 years, is where I'm at.

Well...I want them to win the Cup this year, flip everyone at max value and then win again next year. Is that too much to ask?!?!

My view with Sutter was it was overall a good move no matter the success this season, because we needed to definitively see if this is a coaching issue or a core issue. If it were a core issue, Darryl would fast-track that discovery, expediting some off-season changes that are two seasons overdue.

I love Darryl for nostalgia, his candid nature, and bringing accountability to this group.
