In some ways, that's already happened on a much smaller scale previously.
The last major incident the US had was 9/11.
What came out of 9/11? Creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the USA PATRIOT Act. Americans gave up a ton of their freedoms to allow the country to spy on its own citizens, and it was sold under the guise of "protecting the American people".
Could you imagine if Dick Cheney was President during Covid?

I knew of the Latino and Latina gender description, but never heard of Latinx before. I just assumed that Spanish was like French where the plural for mixed gender defaults to the masculine.
It does, as in French, but in some circles it's considered representative of a historic patriarchy. It's not uncommon in French for instance to hear someone say "elles et ils" these days. Some people have taken to the term "lantinx" for the same reasons.
Really disappointing to see Bobby Orr do that - I was never much for heroes, but Bobby Orr was as close to that for me as anyone. My favourite player as a kid.
Which raises the issue of celebrities publicly endorsing candidates like this... it makes no sense to me. First, I don't care what your political leanings are - you aren't famous because you're a brilliant political mind. Second, the moment you do this, you alienate anyone who disagrees with your views. So, lots to lose and nothing to gain.
I've lost two Canadian heroes due to American politics, Theo Fleury and Bobby Orr. I've defended Theo in every singly instance in his checkered past against a very ugly side of CP, but I just can't get past this. It's saddening and frustrating.
Russia has defeated the West with their division tactics, we just haven't seen the aftermath yet.

Theo shows his true colors at least once a year with his stupid yap so I'm not shocked, Bobby on the other hand must be suffering from dementia.
I can't help but think that the investigations and impeachment didn't help the Democrats. Although there were some damning details found, the inability to try him with charges just ended up making it look like a win for Trump. It may, or may not have, won him votes, but it seemed to at least make his supporters more entrenched and may have convinced some people that the "witch hunt" claims were true. People who support him, and some who were on the fence, really believe that if there was something substantial there, he would have been charged.
I saw the same thing with Trudeau here. There was a certain segment of society that hated him before he ever took office (hell, from the day his birth was announced) and went out of their way to find whatever they could. They looked for year book photos, talked to anyone who ever met him. That really turned me off from the other parties for a while as I hate those sideshows. It's like they had people employed to do nothing but dig up dirt from the past.
On the flip side of that, since then, there have been some reasonable criticisms against him based on recent events, but after a failed "witch hunt", many people stop taking criticisms seriously.
The moral of the story is, if you want to take someone down, you better make sure you do.

There are just 4 days left for those ballots to arrive at their destination. Is this a reason for major concern?
Probably not a reason for concern. Every election, there are millions of people who request ballots, and then end up choosing either to vote in person or not to vote. Requesting or automatically being sent a mail-in ballot doesn't preclude you from voting in person.
I don't know how this number compares to most years, but I assume that with a lot of states sending out automatic absentee ballots, that number would be way higher this year.
The impeachment trials were stupid...why start a fight that you will lose no matter what?
That being said Biden is gonna win...people get crazy right before the election but if you look at any of the real data Biden is going to win and it won't even be close

I'd say no.
-There is a lag in reporting ballets have arrived.
-This isn't a representative sample but the US hovers around 58% participation, they are already at 64% returned.
-For many voters the mail in ballot can be a backup option, and they are still able to vote in person.
Generally the early numbers are an indication of very very high turn out this year. 2 states already have more votes this year then that had 4 years ago.

Yeah but Trump is full of himself. Who's actually going to help him steal an election? The courts aren't even helping him this week on voting regulations.
If he loses by a landslide the Republicans simply jump ship, reunite with the LincolnProject guys, and fight again another day. Who the F is Trump that he will be saved? He'd be simply a one-term failure.

Well, we'll see. So far, they won in Wisconsin and lost in Pennsylvania, but that was in the context of Amy Coney Barrett recusing herself because, in her view, she hadn't had time to familiarize herself with the matter. If, on Tuesday or Wednesday, the Supreme Court is asked to rule about whether ballot counting in these states should be stopped - and note that Pennsylvania won't be substantially finished counting until Friday - the landscape could very easily shift. And that is very concerning.

Trump doesn't even have to lose in a landslide...just for it to be obvious by the end of the night...and considering he basically needs to win every tossup we will likely know by the end of the night all the late ballots are just salt in the wounds

I am with you. I unfollowed Theo on all my social media platforms. I loved him as a child and he is still my fav hockey player ever but his political views have really soured me toward him as a person.

Normally I would agree with this, but the Covid pandemic has made this a unique election. If someone has requested a mail-in ballot, it generally means that the person will not be making a trip to the voting booth...
