Why not? They have $16.9M in cap space.

Although a Gaudreau trade would change everything.

Flames might want to see where the conversation goes with Hall, before ponying up the extra 500k/1 million?
Maybe they are scheduled for their presentation with Hall right now, and that’s the hold up.

Why does everyone fret over the term for these high end players? There is always some budget team willing to take on the cap hit contract in the last year or two as long as the real dollars are less. Throw in that teams can retain salary and you have so many options to divest yourself of the bad contract for a relatively small payment.

Tkachuk is still VERY much on the rise though, whereas those top line guys are in their prime.
Tkachuk absolutely had an impact in these POs just not in the way people find easier to measure/quantify.

Just get it done. Fine with 7 years and $6 million per or less.

I think Treliving would prefer to have it done sooner rather than later.
I am sure there are other free agents, goalie or otherwise, that he would love to pursue if he knows exactly how much cap space he has to work with. If Markstrom falls through and Hall or Brodie get picked up in the meantime, there will be a revolt.

They sure missed him in Round #2.

Oh really? So the Canucks should have no problem getting out from under Loui Eriksson? The Okposo deal is no problem?
This is delusional. Of course it matters.

6 mill Markstrom
8.5 mill Hall
3 mill Mangiapane
Remaining Cap Space: -0.6 mill
And still several empty roster stops.
Hall and Mangiapane could be cheaper, but still, there would have to be room for other bodies.

I believe in the Jays.

Hopefully we negotiate so long that both sides hate each other by the time the deal gets signed.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Not to derail further but Tkachuk's biggest issue is he tries to be too much of a pest in the playoffs and gets away from his game, gets himself hurt.
On topic, if he signs, what # does Markstrom wear?

I am pretty sure, no matter what the circumstance Derek Ryan may very well be traded.
We need to address our defensive depth also.
Time will tell.
