The latest thread title update says Flames close to signing G Jacob Markstrom (6mil AAV? term is being negotiated).
Where was that update from?

I’m guessing the Murray signing in Ottawa put a bit of a snag into negotiations.

Just a quick comment, because this really is a bit of a hot button. You make it sound like Tkachuk is the straw that stirs the drink here. Let's be careful with that expectation. Tkachuk has been a terrible playoff performer to date. As much as we like to #### all lover our stars (Gaudreau and MonahanO for not producing, we have to acknowledge that Tkachuck is not a guy you're tying your playoff wagon to based on his past performance.

It was more of a 'he's my favourite player' and who I think of as the face of the Flames personally than a comment on who's the best player on the team

It's bad for both parties at this point. If this negotiation does break down, then Markström will most likely be leaving both term and dollars on the table.

The longer this goes on the fewer starter spots there are in the goalie game of musical chairs. So it is in Markstrom's best interest, from a leverage standpoint, to strike a deal early. Which suggests Treliving is the one dragging it out.

Yeah, I saw that and hoped there would be pen to paper before that was announced. Calgary can easily point to two rings that Murray has that are sorely lacking from Markstrom's hands in this negotiation. That should come into play. How much, we'll soon find out. We're getting close to numbers that I would almost be inclined to make a deal with Las Vegas on Fleury. Six or seven years for Markstrom scares me.

Why? There's trades to be made to free up space. Like Gaudreau. I think only a very small amount of posters think they'd roll with 3 top line left wingers and nothing else.
