It was. Talbot had a few excellent games and also a few terrible ones as well. He needed to be better in Games #4 and #6.

As you say, at least it does suggest that the Nucks aren't making a crazy offer. However, I would also think that if Boston pulled out, and the Nucks offer was weak, that ARI goes back to OEL and re-addresses landing spots. "It's either Edmonton, or you stay in Arizona". Then if you're OEL, WTF do you do?

Fleury is 7MM, Lucic is 5.25MM, but he also takes the spot of a 2.5MM player, so savings aren’t that bad as Lucic is a useful player, especially playoffs.
|
No one would sign Lucic to a multi year deal today.
He’d have to go year to year until he was no longer “useful”.
Just because he wasn’t as bad as advertised (useless), doesn’t make him a good player.

This is my fear that Arizona goes back to him and tells him to add more teams. Next thing you know Calgary is back in the mix. No thanks.

The draft junkie in me is hoping the Flames can sign a top 4 Dman to play the right side, Brodie would be the most obvious. I thought he was gone for sure, but the recent reports of his 1st priority being to stay with the Flames have me second guessing that.
Then, deal Hanifin to New Jersey for a lesser left D like Mirco Mueller and 20th overall.
Giordano - Brodie
Mueller/Vali - Andersson
Mueller/Vali - XXXXX
I think Valimaki has a huge year if he can stay healthy finally.
And the draft junkie in me would love to have a pair of 1sts in this draft.

Replace Mueller with Ty Smith, and the 20th with the 18th.
Hanifin for Smith + 18th.

I know, but really it was a Fleury discussion, so I don’t know why the present is that relevant. Frankly, I don’t think the size of D is a whole lot different overall. But what is different is that he played from the higher scoring era into the dead puck era and he seemed to adapt OK (subject to his substance issues).

If they can get that much for him then I'm all for it. Seems a bit optimistic though IMO.

He has a full NMC. Their only leverage is a buyout.

They aren't buying out a 29 year old, top pairing Dman who they owe $58M to.
Their leverage is that, if he doesn't waive, he will be the captain of a team that is rebuilding for the foreseeable future.

Iginla fought guys in every series in the 04 playoffs, including Hatcher who was a monster.
You also don't need to exaggerate how big defenders were during Fleury's era, they were actually smaller than they are now.
And you probably did watch Fleury play more than I did, I have never lived in Calgary, and I never saw my first in person NHL game until the turn of the century, so I had to rely exclusively on HNIC and 2&7 to watch games but he was my idol when I was a kid.
I think too many people have kept the hero goggles on for Theo, when the reality is he was probably playing with so much energy because he was coked out of his mind.
|
I think we are going to agree to disagree on this one. No one is questioning that Iginla had "heart" whatever that means. I just disagree with your statement that iginla somehow played with way more heart than Fleury and that it's not close. I chose to see "playing with Heart" as perseverance and there are few that had more of that commitment than Fleury (although Iginla would be someone of the same calibre). I dont think your comment on Fleury being coked out is warranted or necessary. The guy had demons that you and I cant even imagine...but that doesn't mean we need to discredit him for what he did for the Flames. Both were heroes in the city in their own time and both represented the flames amazingly. There is no need to discredit one over the other. Despite the lack of results we were lucky to have both.

Fair enough...it was an exaggeration, but the point stands. Watch some of the early to late 90s games...the hooking, holding and water skiing those players had to fight through was belligerent. Doing that as a 5'-6" player took a level of beating that a larger player would not have experienced the same way. The point is that it's not worth discrediting what Theo meant to the city in his prime and the heart he showed just to play on a daily basis just to pump iggys tires.

I know there is a ton of people who are not in favor of trading Noah Hanifin and I'm not advocating it, just asking a question.
With our 19th pick overall and Noah what what range do you think we could get ourselves to in the draft?

Is there a free agency interview period this year? If so..does this start before the draft? The dynamics of the draft would be completely different I think if you had some assurances from guys like Markstrom or Hall before hand as to what players you could move. If I recall last year...most of the signings were pretty much unofficially done the weekend before free agency.
