Neither is a geography issue.
Agreed on Kadri.

But not so much Stone. I think it was Elliot Friedman that said Stone was hesitant to sign a long term deal in Calgary while he would in Vegas, essentially scuttling the deal.

So if Conroy has been more involved on that end (I don't know if he has or not) then the decision would strike me as odd.
I’d generally agree - they didn’t do well on scouting Neal especially. The pro scouting seems superficial - counting stats and position. I have no insight on Conroy’s duties but I would have thought as an ex-pro, that would have been something he’d be involved in.

If they get rid of Tre (which I don’t think is happening anyway), I’d like to see them get an AGM from a successfully managed team. Someone who’s apprenticed under a known good GM. Or maybe a GM who’s been unfairly canned, like, Lou in Toronto.

Right, I thought it was fairly well established that the price being asked was OK for a guy who would re-sign but not for a pure rental, and Stone wasn’t going to sign here.

I always wonder how these things get established. Different parties have different motives for leaking info.

I can understand why he may have preferred Vegas but was there a price point where Calgary was acceptable to him?

I am not saying that is what I want but I think it is a logical and realistic scenario that will play out if they did fire Tree
And sometimes this works out pretty well. The Boston Bruins replaced Cup-winning Peter Chiarelli with in-house executive Don Sweeney in 2015. It was a hire that at the time appeared really puzzling, but in retrospect has worked out very well.

All this is to suggest that none of us knows what the Flames have in Craig Conroy; this also works to Jiri's point.

For my money, the only reason now to move on from Treliving is to hire a better, more experienced manager. Maybe someone like Dean Lombardi, but I am not convinced this is a positive step forward. Being a GM is hard, and I believe that in the NHL many are reached too early by reactionary and impatient owners. Some of the best ones have had years and years to hammer away at their teams.

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but Elias Lindholm's girlfriend just revealed the news that the couple went through 2 miscarriages this summer. She found out she was pregnant a 2nd time while Lindholm was back in Canada, and they just learned recently the sad news together.

I certainly couldn't fault him for not being his best under those circumstances.

Well that would be hard to go through and combine that with the bubble, I could see that taking a toll.

It seems unfair to attach that news to discussions about his play, but there was talk about something going on with him.

It's hard to imagine the hardships of going through one miscarriage in a summer, let alone then leaving your partner alone to play in a weird bubble tournament during a pandemic, only to learn she's pregnant again so soon after but you can't be there to support her.

Awful situation for them.

It's also just something we should all keep in mind. You never know what's going on with people in their lives, so giving people the benefit of the doubt is never a bad path to take.

That's what you want to hear from your captain. Own up to your mistakes and your own lack of production, show some passion, and defend your teammates.

Hard to say where we'd be today if he wasn't injured. That Dallas series could have gone either way, just like the Winnipeg series at the start, until it didn't.

Have to imagine some of that is directed towards Francis as he's really been the vocal one in the media heavily criticizing Monahan and Gaudreau.

You almost feel like at minimum Gio should pass the captaincy to Tkachuk. He's got that accountability and the future face of the franchise tone to him. Gio's been here through a lot of the rot. He's been a good leader, but he's in the twilight.

Francis is now too old to hang out with those guys (and those guys probably told him as much) so he is writing hit prices trying to regain his HNIC insider status.

But I think Tkachuk is talking overall and not giving any credit to Francis specifically. Those guys at that age are far past reading just the newspaper or Sportsnet/TSN, they too go to HF or here, and see multiple threads about those two guys specifically that range from annoyance of fans, to full blown psychological and physical critical analysis from nobodies on a message board.

Howevever, that general fan consensus feeds it's way back through the beat writers who are looking for their lede, and all of a sudden it's all repeated to the larger masses and then that feeling is taken as generally accepted consensus.

Reporting on twitter is that Tkachuk would not have been able to play against Dallas but would be available now if they were still playing.
