Theres no deep dive here. Maurice is using the old coaches playbook. Key player gets hurt? Set a media frenzy. Try to create a distraction. Thing is, Chuckles don't care. Hes going to go out on the ice and just keep playing.
This is where Ward will truly shine. Keep an even keel and let the play on the ice dictate the outcome. Once you get into the head games when you're leading a series, you're playing into their hands.
Sucks Scheifle is hurt. But uhhh, its hockey, players get hurt.
And from what I can tell, Flames don't really have a need to get into a war of words right now.
Game 2 will be interesting. Jets are very likely to get extra chippy. But I think the Flames can handle it.
You know what I thought was the weirdest thing though?
Gio bumped into Laine and Gio bounced off him and fell, and then Laine said sorry? Like what? Then Gio, kind of stunned gives Laine the old shift to the kidneys and they tussle a bit in front of the net. And Laines wrist was hurt before the Gio bounce.

Watch it again - Laine drilled Gio in the face with an elbow.

I’m not sure I agree with wanting to hurt someone every time you hit them. I would guess most players feel the same way. You want to wear them down as the game goes along. Make them know to be aware. But nobody truly wishes to hurt someone. At least by my perspective.
I can't speak for the original poster that said it, but in my mind you want to hurt every player every single time you hit them. Just maybe not in the way you are thinking.
I want it to sting. I want them to know I'm out there and to maybe rush their decisions because they know I'm coming. I want to wear on them and I want them to know they were on the ice with me the next morning. That's it, though. Not trying to knock anyone out for even a day and definitely not injure; short- or long-term.

Yeah, it's a weird line. Of course you want them to feel it. You want them to be afraid to have the puck. But no one wants to see someone seriously injured. The times when I've accidentally hurt someone, I've always felt terrible about it, and the times when I've been hurt, usually you know no one meant to seriously injure you.
A select few guys are definitely dangerous though. I don't think Tkachuk is one of those guys. If anything, he purposely opens himself up to being cheap-shotted by being a little doosh on the ice.

seemed like a kind of 'accidentally on purpose' to me... of course, if Tkachuk did the exact same thing, Maurice probably would be calling for a 2 game suspension

Due to another Tkachukgate its been kind of lost that some of the Flames PK players really locked down the Jets. Winnipeg had 7 powerplays and a grand total of 4 shots.
Backlund 6:14, Ryan 6:50, Lindholm 5:33, Rieder 6:44 SH time.
Gio 7:28, Forbort 6:44, Brodie 6:29, Andersson 4:25 SH time.
Backs played the most among forwards with 20:14, Gio lead the D w 22:40.
The fact that Rieder scored a beauty breakaway shorthanded goal and then Backlund with that top corner laser snipe was some amazing icing on that defensive lockdown cake.

Paul Maurice is #5 in all time games coached in the NHL. Does he have a reputation for calling players dirty? I can not recall of any incidents prior to this one.
Tkachuk will have a long and successful career, but his playing over the edge has a downside as he will be under extra referee scrutiny.

I am not the person to ask, I tape the games and watch the replays.
But the Laine/Giordano clip has been posted multiple times I think.
