A 5th? Maybe, a bit higher.
But what he’s not, is a cost of a 1st, to liquidate.
Most playoff teams can fit in Froliks contract at the deadline (or earlier), based upon Capfriendly’s data today.

That said, trading for Hall is a very win-now move, and I'm not super convinced that we're in a closing window where we'd need to go all-in. To me, our overall cup chances over the next 10 years decrease if we trade a bunch of assets like a 1st, Valimaki, or Dube for Hall.

Everything I have read is Hall is going to prioritize winning first and foremost. If he wanted money he would have re-signed in NJ. Maybe he will go for the biggest possible payday but I think he wants to win long term and be on a consistent playoff team.
I could see him signing the Stamkos contract for max term at 8.5M. Still fair but not the ridiculous 10-12M that is being rumored to be his ask

So, you would agree Gaudreau is also not a game breaker right? Since, all you want to look at is Hall's career point totals.
Absolute joke that you don't think a guy who just carried a team to the playoffs two years ago and won the Hart isn't a gane breaker lol

I think there is some serious over valuing Valimaki post injuries.
I don’t see how anyone can be 100% certain we are going to get the player we all fell in love with when he does come back from this latest injury.

Flames window is 3 years not 10 years. NHL has changed you have a short amount of time to go all in and then start the process all over again.

Another potential factor in Hall re-signing if we were to trade for him other than being from Calgary, and being a big Flames fan, is Geoff Ward. IIRC Hall spoke very highly of Ward when he was with NJ.

You can’t be 100% certain we won’t.
I’ll stick with the Valimaki mystery box.

Then no deal gets done because there is no cap space to make a trade. NJ is going to be taking back salary in any trade for Hall because contending teams don't have $6 million in cap space.

He’d be as much an offensive game breaker as anyone on our current roster. Guy has been on garbage teams his entire career.

Honestly, I think the Flames should be all over this.
Especially if we can keep him out of Colorado, St Louis, or Arizona's hands. The Flames window is currently open and could change dramatically in the coming years with Gio and Gaudreau if we don't add any significant pieces.
I think we're also set up well when it comes to the cap structure of the team to re-sign him. Frolik, Brodie, Hamonic, Janko, and Talbot all expiring with Mangiapane, Kylington, and Andersson needing raises. Those 4 make up $17.232M and I think only one of Brodie/Hamonic are brought back.

It’d be nice if he signed at $8.5, and that was the ceiling for Tkachuk’s next contract too.

If Valimaki is expansion exempt after losing the year to injury and only being tagged with 2 years of pro service I actually think hes worth more than he was last year. He is so young and players at that age typically move past injuries really smoothly.

I can't wait until some other dumb GM trades for this guy and I hope to God he signs an extension with them so this insanity stops.

You honestly need to watch him play. He is the guy generating the points. Not sure what your definition of game breaker is, but he's another consistent and legit offensive threat. He'd be right behind Gaudreau in the Flames lineup. The biggest issue with the Flames is that they can be shut down by shutting Gaudreau down. Hall would change all of that, as he's the type of player you send your top shut down guys against.

To Calgary:
Taylor Hall (signed)
To New Jersey:
Mikael Backlund

2nd Round 2021
Hall-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Gaudreau-Monahan-Dube

Maybe try and pick up a better 4th line center at the deadline.

GOAT!

Hall is a first-overall, Hart-winning, born-and-raised Calgarian winger who grew up cheering for the Flames and is still in his prime.
Flames fans: “Eww, gross! No thank you!”
