I like that BT and the Flames are taking the time to do this right and properly. Then it can be put to bed and they can move on from it, instead of endless appeals and the like.

pretty obvious this was a move from a legal standpoint as its a disaster from a PR standpoint. Knowing he will never work again at this level, its about leaving with as much money in his pocket as possible.

“Cancel culture” is such a tell.

Whats with the "Brad Treliving 4123-5413" at the top of Franci's msg?

Also, it appears he sent it to Bob Mackenzie. Sportsnet probably also has it, but hasn't released it as yet?

Apology sucks, but as for an apology to Aliu, why would that occur in a letter addressed to Brad Treliving?

Flames don't want to be on the hook for his salary...trying to get league and/or Chicago to chip in with some settlement and a settlement letter with some protection (NDA, non disparagement, etc) might be better than cutting him off and having to litigate. This apology is sign that he will fight if they don't take care of him.

I think Burke might be right if only for the fact that the flames want this whole thing to go away as quickly as possible and just paying him his money to go away might be the easiest, swiftest and most cost effective solution.

He's sorry this came to light, he's not sorry he did it. I mean, a heartfelt apologize when it first came out could have gone a long way even if his lawyer would have hated it. Waiting to see if there was any other people who would have collaborated his story, then have his document written by his legal team, and then sending it to the media without apologizing to Aliu? It's obvious where his priorities lay and they aren't with trying to be respectful to Aliu,
Well now I'm confused, because he very adamantly says in the apology letter that he went into the locker room afterwords and apologized.

Would he blatantly lie about something like that when it could easily be corroborated by the 20 other guys that were in the locker room at the time?

And before you say he would, think that he obviously had his lawyers help him write this.

Something stinks here.

This isn't "cancel culture". This is "getting held accountable for bullying/racism in the workplace" culture. The best damn player in the history of the franchise is a black man for chrissakes. If Bill Peters is able to seek forgiveness for his terrible boss past (and maybe present), I wish him well. I can only imagine that the ownership group is more worried about sponsors and the media cancelling revenues... there is no path forward for Peters as coach.

I think his only saving grace may have been a release of additional information in that Aliu was leaving out a previous apology/discussion/etc. Him saying he went back into the room to apologize is kind of that I suppose, I don't know... All said, in today's mob mentality culture, right or wrong, nothing is probably enough to save face, or his job.

I think most of the people in that camp figure he should tattoo "I'm a racist piece of ****" on his forehead and set himself on fire. No redemption for this sin.

That was as much of an air quotes apology as I've ever seen.

Exaggerating what people are saying adds nothing and serves nobody.

You mean since 1865 the end of the civil war? I don't think the "N"words been culturally acceptable for quite some time.

There is also absolutely nothing to indicate that he didn't personally reach out the Aliu and apologized.

People are jumping to conclusions around here.

Like I said, it is really strange why he would say he went into the locker room after and apologized in an official apology letter to his employer who is looking into legal ways to get rid of him and not have to pay him anymore.

Something is really, really strange here.

Seems like they could relieve him of his duties while still working out some type of settlement.

That doesn’t seem strange at all.
