ya, I don't understand the context argument at all. Unless perhaps Peters was straight reciting rap lyrics that had the word when trying to justify the playing (or not playing ) of the certain music (which is also not really acceptable, just ask Kendrick Lamar - though I have my opinion on that whole fiasco), I don't think there is ANY understandable reason for him to use the word.
Using the N word at the workplace, regardless of context, would absolutely be reported to HR and be punishable. The ONLY circumstance I can think of where he could be truly innocent in all this (assuming the player isn't just lying, which of course is plausible at this stage) is if Peters stated "don't play music that has <N-word> in it here". But even then, if he's so concerned about the use of the word, then he wouldn't utter the word itself when making his point.

Jesus Peters. And to think I was ready to vote for you for mayor if you ever ran for it...
I was willing to wait it out and give Peters the benefit out a doubt if he apologized. But clearly sounds like he's got some old school racism stuck in his bones. No place for that on the Flames, let alone in our Canadian society.
The man went from being a hero last season to an absolute loser in the blink of an eye. Good riddance.

Abuse is NOT ok, nowhere did I advocate that...I am saying be careful of the fly by's that are going to happen. The dude runs by with no story and no context, just "treated terrible". Who said anything about accepting emotional abuse or if there even was emotional abuse? Is negative feedback emotional abuse?
Player can been mad because they felt he deserved more ice time, because they got cut, many other reasons. Pretty big leap to go to emotional abuse IMO.
I am not defending Peters because I have no clue...I am just saying don't believe every story that comes out of the wood work without context.
If Peters emotionally abused anyone or made the comments he is accused of he deserves his fate 100%.

a. So just like a lot of us thought it went down. In fact a combination of them.
b. Good on Dowling.
c. Peters was a 45 year old guy at the time I think. Not a kid. And it wasn't even provoked by a loss of temper - he walks in, drops the bomb, walks out. Doesn't apologize after for a loss of control, doesn't offer any ignorance defence.
He's done.

A season going bad has just gotten way worse.
Looks like we are going to hire yet another head coach that this team will block out in a season and a bit.
Not cool Peters, not cool.

Now I'm picturing Peters trying to quote Real N*** Role Call with Ice Cube haha. I loved that song but god damn is it not one to sing along too.

First sentence was not fine you goofus, it was racist as ####.
The fact that you refuse to see it that way makes me think you're a racist.

I've heard a guy at work (well, an after work thing) do exactly this, though he wasn't quoting a particular song - he was saying "it's all N---- this...". But he got an immediate reaction and then, I understand, a reprimand from HR.
"N music" is as bad as calling someone the N word. Especially given who was playing it.
