For a white man to use the “N” word deliberately in the presence of a black man? No, there isn’t.

And ya, I get a kick out of public figures saying stupid ####, specifically sports and politicians. This is my version of the Kardashians.

It's not being used as a verb in your example, it's an adjective but even then it's being used as a derogatory, racist reference to a group of people. So it's still fire-worthy.
The only use of the word in that room that I can see him getting any lesser reaction from is if he was quoting the word and saying he didn't like music with it in it. Even then it's so tone deaf I question his judgment.
Where I would have an inner conflict is if he admitted it, it was a one-off and he made a super abject and proper apology. Then I don;'t know if I give him another chance or say "I believe you are sincere but we still can't keep you".

Leonardo DiCaprio was playing a character who owned slaves in the pre Civil War South. "Playing a character" being the operative phrase.
And he didn't win an Oscar for Django - Christoph Walz did, and his character only says the N word when undercover to curry favor with slave owners. He never calls Django one. Or addresses any black character in that way. Leo's Oscar is for the Revenant.
I'll amend the statement: white people can't say the N word unless they're acting in a movie, and even then, they should only say it when working with auteurs.

Can you stop jumping all over people before facts behind an allegation (or, in this case... the suggestion of dislike)
I'm not entirely up to date, but has he even made an allegation? Is he even a victim to be blaming? Is this even blaming?
It looks like context into how long they were together, what he contributed in that time, and what he went on to do. Context.

News UpdateTSN has been able to independently corroborate Aliu's story with two of his teammates
https://www.tsn.ca/akim-aliu-speaks-...ters-1.1403974
Quote:
Former NHL player Akim Aliu said on Monday that current Calgary Flames coach Bill Peters repeatedly hurled racial epithets in his presence in a minor league locker room a decade ago.
Speaking publicly for the first time since he made the allegation on Twitter, the Nigerian-born Aliu said Peters made the remarks in the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs dressing room before a morning skate during the 2009-10 season while the 20-year-old Aliu controlled the team’s music.
“He walked in before a morning pre-game skate and said ‘Hey Akim, I’m sick of you playing that n----- s---,’ ” Aliu told TSN, with Peters, who was then the Ice Hogs head coach, referring to Aliu’s selection of hip-hop music. “He said ‘I’m sick of hearing this n-----s f------ other n-----s in the ass stuff.’
“He then walked out like nothing ever happened. You could hear a pin drop in the room, everything went dead silent. I just sat down in my stall, didn’t say a word.”
Two of Aliu’s Rockford teammates who were in the room at the time of the alleged incident, Simon Pepin and Peter MacArthur, independently corroborated Aliu’s account to TSN on Tuesday.
"I think everyone should be held accountable for their actions or words spoken," Pepin said.
Aliu said Rockford team captain Jake Dowell later confronted Peters about the incident in the coach’s office. Dowell could not immediately be reached for comment.
When Peters then called Aliu into his office to talk about it, Aliu said Peters did not apologize. Instead, Peters again expressed his displeasure in Aliu’s choice of music for the dressing room, with Aliu saying Peters said: “You know, I’m just sick of this n----- s---. It’s every day. From now on, we need to play different music.”

It gave Decaprio a lot of inner trouble to say it and he needed Jamie Foxx and Samuel L Jackson to convince him.
ETA: On the other hand Tarantino writing it for himself in Pulp Fiction was stupid and I think he has issues. Jackson didn't like that either.

Some people have mentioned this being a #metoo moment for NHL coaches -- it wasn't that long ago that Bob Hartley was called out for being a bully from when he was coaching in Colorado. According to Google this came to light in 2013 (when he was with the Flames); interestingly there was also a thread on CP last year about how Cory Sarich said Hartley was the worst coach he ever played for: https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=166506

Ah right, always mix those two up. But ya, if he used it as an adjective or quoted a song 10 years ago. Give an apology and be done with it. Honestly I can't even pretend to be outraged by that.
Now I'm picturing Peters trying to quote Real N*** Role Call with Ice Cube haha. I loved that song but god damn is it not one to sing along too.

^ If he said he was sick of the music with having that word as a lyric, not saying is as the type of music, and it just came out wrong?
