Sveningsson has played in a better league every year since he was picked and his production has not dropped. Last season he was a solid contributor on the team that wound up being the best in the allsvenskan. His pro experience is the best of the non-AHL prospects.

Gotta say, I'm pretty surprised that Gillies isn't faring better in the last couple of polls. Of the remaining prospects I think he is the best bet to actually be an NHLer at this point. I guess people are hesitant with goalies, especially with a couple of down years and the Flames history with drafting and developing goalies.

What’s holding me back personally from choosing Gillies any higher than about 15 is that he is in a no-mans land situation with his one-way contract this year. I think with the signing of Zagidulin and with Parsons to play in the AHL again, Gillies doesn’t really have a natural spot to slide into if he doesn’t crack the NHL roster. And it definitely seems like Rittich/Talbot will be the tandem for next year. To add on that, he just had a really tough year last year and it’s hard to project him to be an NHL quality goaltender (at least for the Flames).

Zavgorodniy gets my vote for the second straight round. Pospisil is also a good choice for this round.
Chiming in on Gillies, I don't see him cracking the top 12 this year.

I was going to say exactly this. Of all the people remaining, he's the most likely to play an NHL game. And his ceiling is as high as any of them, as a large size goalie. Last season wasn't great but he's had no others below .910.

He also was an All Star in the second best league in the world, although I don’t know how legit their all star selections are
Went with Pospisil though. He will play in the AHL as a 19 year old this year and could potentially have 4(?) years to develop there which as a forward is great.

I am over looking him because the Flames have an excess of D-men. Even if he is good enough, he will likely stay in the AHL.

He's getting old enough where emerging as a viable NHL goalie is becoming less and less likely. Could absolutely still happen, it'd just be an exception to the rule. Most goalies in the NHL emerged at 25 or younger, and all of those had consistently solid work as either a backup or in the AHL.
Gillies turns 26 this season and took a large step backward last season in the AHL and was also not great in the NHL the year prior.
He might be the best bet to get into more NHL games, but I think most people are choosing based on a player's likelihood to actually stick in the NHL (instead of being a blip on the radar). Gillies' chances shrink every year.

I don’t know about that. I’d say it’s pretty unlikely for any of the remaining players to become regular NHLers. At least Gillies has actually been to the show and not looked completely out of place (underwhelming performances for the most part, I’ll admit).

Not that unlikely. Looking back at past years, there have been players who showed up later than this on the list that made it as NHL regulars every year.
In 2013 we had Granlund at 12, Brossoit at 17, Bouma at 21, Kulak at 25, and Ferland at 26, all of whom had NHL careers. Everyone but Bouma is still going in 2019. And Ortio had 37 NHL games over 3 years as well, and he was 30th.
2014 had most of the above at 9 or less, and also had Jankowski at 11 and Jooris at 35.
2015 had Kylington, Andersson, Kulak, Mangiapane, Hathaway all at 10th or below.
2016 has Mangiapane, Kulak, Fox, Dube, Hathaway, Rittich (at 31!), all 9th or less
So there is a very good chance of players still on this year's list making it to the NHL. There will also be players we've already picked that will not make it.

For every Tim Thomas, there are 100 Leland Irvings.
"Not completely out of place, but underwhelming" just doesn't generally spell a 25-year-old goalie on the brink of success.
I'd be ecstatic to be wrong, though. I just understand why Gillies is getting no love.

Bored so I’m going to mention my confusion on your reference to a goalie who didn’t sniff the NHL until a decade after he was drafted, and was never developed by his draft team.
