Good interview so far. Too much depth wasn't helpful. What was point of having 10 guys when only 6 can play.

Pretty obvious Peters doesn't want Monahan playing at the Worlds. Wants him healing and training.

Funny how Monahan says he was fine and Peters says he isn't healthy enough to play right now

Peters keeps talking about Monahan being injured and he needs to train this summer as last summer he just rehabbed.

Monahan will never give you anything.
Guys on this board will call him gutless but I just don't get that from him.

I thought it was just mental exhaustion, something outside hockey but yeah, sounds like its still physical issues.

Because he takes punishment and goes about his business.
Everyone remembers Sarich crushing Marleau in the playoffs a few years ago. Yeah big momentum shift, energy etc. Flames come back and win the game.
But what at was the big take away? Marleau is tough as nails. Kept playing and Sharks win the series.

As the national network beat reporter he is in the unique position to be able to ask harder hitting, more informative questions than the local guys can and he just constantly whiffs on this stuff.
I'm sure he's a great guy, but for gods sake man come in prepared with questions to ask.

How does that correlate to being tough? A bunch of hooking and tripping minors doesn’t make us bad ass

Yeah, maybe Monahan is the dude who breaks his hand and says he doesn't need to go to the doctor haha

Peters talks like this was their first time in the playoffs. I get he doesn't want to be associated with what happened before him but you have to acknowledge they shouldn't have been surprised by what you need to succeed in the playoffs.
I still think the organization (or at minimum it's fans) looks at the Anaheim series two years ago and blames it all on Elliott. How many ES goals did they score that series?

He is not gutless. He is Jay Bouwmeester - very even, one gear. I could live with it, if that gear included playing a complete 200 ft game and some power skating.

I know this is somewhat tongue in cheek but I think it's just so dumb.
Monahan takes the most punishment of any player on the roster. He's a gamer, his body is just broken.
If the Flames had other players willing to take that kind of abuse maybe they would've won more games and maybe monahan wouldn't have to take so much of it.
Agree he needs to work on his skating though, it's easily his worst physical attribute and is what prevents him from being able to play a 200ft game.
My biggest takeaway from that Peters interview is that I think Backlund is gone. He was absolutely horrific in the post season, and if lindholm is going to be playing centre, it's not going to be on line 1.

That or he is pushed down to #3C and Jankowski is gone.

Monahan is a great complimentary player to Gaudreau when Johnny has the space to work in the regular season. When that space disappears in the playoffs, Gaudreau just doesn't have the physical ability to battle through the tight checking. He needs another player who is another threat to carry in the puck, take it to net, and create space for him to play his game.

The far more likely scenario. Jankowski is scratched in the playoffs if he didn’t kill penalties imo. Peters even alluded to some guys playing special teams as to why more changes were not made in game 5
