He is a guy though that learns as he goes and adjusts to be better. That part of him, I'm not worried about but his contract? Very much worried about it.
Over his first three seasons like clockwork (to be fair his season was cut short last year just when Gulutzan finally figured out he could be effective on the powerplay) his play tapers off in the 2nd half. I'm not sure if this is a conditioning thing or what. We know his dad wasn't the most fit guy but I don't sense that's an issue with Matthew. This team doesn't seem to have a lot of guys that play better in the 2nd half of the season.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
David Rittich says he was playing through an undisclosed injury from January to the end of the season.

Says it’ll keep him from representing the Czech Republic at Worlds. Says he really wants to go but needs to take care of his injury. #Flames
If Rittich was playing through a painful injury since De 31st than I'm absolutely stoked.

I thought he really put it together this season as a number 1 guy and then faltered again. This is the fantastic news.

The game turned on him when the play got tougher. No doubt. But so drastically? Even last year it got tougher for him in the 2nd half of the year but he had a great playoff. This year nothing. What you're saying may play a role. Heck it might be exactly whats up. I think its more. He's a young guy and he looked mentally worn. I just hope whatever it is, be it self analysis or whatever, he gets through it and gets everything right for next year.

The Flames wouldn't be what they were this year without Monahan. And we can critique the end of the year all we want but he was a major reason they had the successes they did.
I wasnt trying to explain his season. Just saying what he needs to do to help the team win. It is up to the front office and coaches to determine if he (and JG) has it it in him or not, and proceed accordingly.

Not a hot take and probably the easiest thing for someone to say. Unless this is a first place team again next year if Neal is as bad or worse next year it will definitely be highlighted more

Peters just mentioned looking at Lindholm as a center next year. That's a pretty big clue about where they think they need to be better.

I like what Peters is saying about having a smaller training camp group. Liked how they had a small group in china and hinted that he'd like to see that next camp too. I hate how camps are bloated with PTOs and how late cuts are made. Have the team as a whole clicking prior to the last exhibition game.

Lindholm potentially to #2 center and a look for a new RW?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hayes?
Tkachuk - Lindholm - ?
Bennett - Backlund- Neal
Mangiapane - Ryan - Hathaway

He has also mentioned multiple times how they handled the last 3 games of the year after they clinched. Sounds like he thinks that was a problem.

*sigh*

Jermaine Franklin....

As the national network beat reporter he is in the unique position to be able to ask harder hitting, more informative questions than the local guys can and he just constantly whiffs on this stuff.

I'm sure he's a great guy, but for gods sake man come in prepared with questions to ask.
