Playoffs are all that really matter though. If you had a poll at the start of the year and asked what people would take:

1) First place in the West after the regular season but only win 1 playoff game
2) Sneak into the playoffs as a wildcard but advance to Round 2 or 3

Guaranteed 95%+ would take the playoff success. Veteran teams gear up for the playoffs over the course of the season and don't care about regular season success.

I don't think anything needs to be done. Maybe shift a couple of the lines but at this point it is too late. Eithet the guys really want it and make things happen or they don't. I see no point in switching goals or benching guys with 20 minutes and a 3 goal deficit.
